FROM ‘NANCY’ to ‘SALLY’ REALITY TV RUNNER-UP LANDS STAR ROLE IN THE HIT MUSICAL CABARET

Samantha Barks, the hugely popular runner-up from the hit BBC series ‘I’d Do Anything’, has been cast in the prestigious role of Sally Bowles in the Award Winning musical Cabaret. A former student of Arts Ed in Chiswick, Sam returns to South West Londonsizzling onstage opposite world-renowned dancer and TV favourite Wayne Sleep in the sensational Cabaret.

Samantha, who received rave reviews from judges including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Denise Van Outen, spoke of her delight at being cast in therole.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to get this part. Cabaret is one of my favourite shows ever and Sally Bowles is such a great part to play. Having met Liza Minnelli during the filming of I’d Do Anything I’m beside myself with excitement.”

Since its Broadway premiere in 1966 and the famous movie version with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey, CABARET has won a staggeringnumber of stage and screen awards including 8 Oscar’s, 7 BAFTAs and 13 Tonys.

This “Sensational” Double Olivier Award Winner and Variety Club Awards ‘Best Musical’, turns WeimarBerlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven ofdecadence. And at its heart is the legendary Sally Bowles, who performs nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub in ‘a shimmering masterpiece of a showguaranteed night after night!’

From the creators of the hit musical Chicago, CABARET features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songsin musical theatre including ‘Mein Herr’, ‘Maybe This Time’ and of course ‘Cabaret’.

Wayne Sleep won a Leverhulme Scholarship to the RoyalBalletSchool in 1961 and joinedthe Royal Ballet Company in 1966. Later he became a Principal Dancer and had numerousroles created for him by - amongst others - Ashton, MacMillan, de Valois, Layton, Nureyev,and Neumeier. He was a Guest Artist with several ballet companies, including EnglishNational, LondonCity, Scottish, Capab, and London Contemporary Dance. Recently hedanced the Ugly Sister in Ashton’s Cinderella with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, at theMetropolitan Opera House in New York and in Tokyo.

SamanthaBarkshas recently finished in the top three of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for thenew Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver! Reaching the final of the BBC’s I’d Do Anythingafforded Samantha a wealth of experience, working with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Idina Menzeland Liza Minelli to name but a few. Having moved from the Isle of Man to London at theage of 16 she trained at the ArtsEducationalSchool for a year before entering thecompetition to find the next Nancy. She would like to say a big thank you to everyone whovoted and supported her throughout the show! Cabaret marks her professional theatricaldebut.
