Sponsor a Sheep & Fiber Fest Sheep Sign!

It’s a Sheep, It’s a Sign, It’s an Art Contest!

Back by popular demand! Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest has created a limited number of adoptable Sheep Signs to promote the Festival being held May 19 & 20, 2018

Each Sheep Sign sponsor will receive a primed (white) sheep-shaped sign and sufficient paint to decorate it. You can paint the sheep any way you want!

10 sheep are available on a first come, first served basis. However, if more than 10 are requested we will make more. If more are needed, the sooner we know, the better.

Cash Prizes! will be awarded to the Sheep Signs that receive the most votes. Votes are LIKEs for the photo of your Sheep Sign on the Sheep & Fiber Fest Facebook page. The sponsor of the sheep sign with the most LIKEs by 11:59 p.m. Saturday May 19, 2018 will be the winner.

First place: $75. This is a great opportunity to show your true school or community colors...or any other colors! Have your staff make a fun afternoon event of it. Or ask your favorite artist(s)—of any age— to give you a hand. Or have your favorite youth or community group paint your sign and take a shot at winning the prize for their organization.

Sheep Signs are made of quality exterior plywood and coated with exterior primer. When you sponsor a Sheep Sign, S&FF will provide the primed plywood Sheep Sign, paint brushes, and sufficient exterior latex paint for you to create your own unique work of art.

The Sheep Signs will promote the Sheep & Fiber Fest and your sponsorship of it in the weeks leading up to the festival. S&FF will provide custom signage for your Sheep Sign prominently naming you as sponsor and crediting your chosen artists.

Display your Sheep Sign at your place of business or anywhere else it won’t be sheep rustled. All signs will then be used at the festival to prominently display signage that will direct people to the various festival events. The plan is to add Sheep Signs each year through new sponsorships and, at the same time, grow the flock of fun and functional signboards for use at the festival.

Each Sheep Sign sponsorship costs $50. Proceeds will help support the Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival. All Sheep Signs are the property of Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful. You will be able to display your Sheep Sign each May if you so renew your sponsorship.

Instructions & Guidelines

  1. Completely cover both sides of the Sheep Sign with the paint provided.
This will insure that the wood will not degrade in the weather. We have calculated that the paint provided should be sufficient to cover the Sheep Sign entirely. If you run out of paint and need more, call Judith Galbraith. Please do not use other paint that may not stand up to the use these signs will see.
  2. Paint the sheep and legs unassembled.
Or at least take them apart before the paint dries and they are stuck together permanently. The Sheep Signs are disassembled and stored flat when not in use.
  3. Mix paint in separate containers, such as paper cups.
The colors provided are pure primary colors and will mix to make a clean, clear orange, purple, green, etc. Experiment a bit and you’ll find you can mix any colors you want. Permanent markers can be useful for detail work.
  4. Have fun. Be creative.
There are no restrictions on how you decorate your Sheep Sign. Sheep Signs are being created to promote the Waynesburg Sheep and Fiber Fest and to show your support for the festival. You may add other materials to your sign, but be aware that the signs will be used outdoors and will be disassembled for transport and storage. Plan accordingly.
  5. The center of each side will be covered by signs.
The center of each side of the Sheep Sign has a 18”x12” dry erase board affixed to each side. DO NOT remove or paint on the sign.
  6. Sheep Signs should be completed and on display by May 1. (Hint: assembled Sheep are easiest to move if lifted by the legs, not the back. As tempting as it is, DO NOT PICK UP SHEEP BY THE EARS! They don't like it when their ears break off.)

When your Sheep Sign is painted and ready for display, simply assemble the Sheep and take a digital photo of it. Send the photo to so she can post it on the festival Facebook page.

  1. And the winner is....
Each Sheep Sign will have its photo posted on the S&FF Facebook page. Each LIKE is a vote. Since an individual FB user can only vote once, directing a larger number of people to the page to vote will be the key to winning. The winner will be announced Sunday May 21.
  2. Sheep at work
The Sheep Signs will be collected a day or two before the festival and taken to the Greene County Fairground, where they will be put to work herding festival goers to the various activities and events.
