Our Vision
Excellence in breast cancer care for all Australians
The Foundation for Breast Cancer Care focuses on raising awareness and promoting the prevention and control of breast cancer, especially for disadvantaged women
Goal 1:To educate and promote awareness about breast cancer care
Through our education, information and communication practices, we aim to improve awareness about good breast cancer care for the broader community, patients, general practitioners and surgeons. Our key result areas are:
  • Community awareness fund raising events
  • Supporting people to advocate for our cause
  • Newsletters and dissemination of authoritative information
Priorities
  • Finding and supporting high profile personalities to be our voice to the world
  • Lobbying government to provide access for all Australians to breast imaging
/ Goal 2:To assure quality standards in breast cancer care services
We will explore a range of opportunities to support continuous improvement in breast cancer care services in Australia. Our key result areas are:
  • Collection and analysis of breast cancer surgery audit data
  • Training of surgeons and other groups involved in breast cancer care
  • Funding breast cancer research
Priorities
  • Collecting and analysing HPQI data and reporting what it tells us to key stakeholders and interested people
  • Attracting high quality applications for breast cancer care research
  • Establishing a video library

Goal 3:To support equity of access to quality breast cancer care
We aim to improve accessibility to breast cancer care for the marginalised members of our communities. Our key result areas are:
  • Identifying areas of greatest accessibility disadvantage
  • Improving access for Indigenous Australians and people disadvantaged by ethnicity, geography, education and socioeconomic circumstance
Priorities
  • Partnering with IHC to pilot an Indigenous breast cancer care program
  • Develop an online tool / app to support the journey of breast cancer patients
/ Goal 4:To encourage a comprehensive approach to breast cancer patient wellbeing
We recognise the whole person and the end-to-end needs of every breast cancer patient. Our key result areas are:
  • Breast reconstruction
  • Comprehensive specialist and allied service support
Priorities
  • Explore options for funding from companies producing breast care and reconstruction products
  • Develop a breast cancer risk assessment app in collaboration with BCNA
