The majority of data review is on-screen based, i.e. looking for equipment information, or any other database entity, for one time, and this does not need printable format reports.
ISDIS in its current version mostly supports such information through its reports, which needs a very long trip through system's pages to produce any piece of temporarily required information, which is time consuming for frequently used function.
3 / More smooth hyper linking
The most helpful facility of any web-based application is through hyper-linking and relations between different pages, i.e. jumping from PC information to its custodian, or maintenance information or any other entity related to this entity.
ISDIS does not support this facility, and requires you go to the filtering page of the entity itself (starting always from specific application point), i.e. if you want to view the custodian's information of the current PC on your screen, you have to memorize his name and go to the Custodians page to skim through to find the required record. Also, it would be more rational to do all equipment related operations (sending to maintenance, change custodian, enter maintenance information) starting from link located on the page displays device's information.
4 / Search depending on sub-device
Search capabilities are limited, and in many cases you need to refer to the reports.
There is no straight forward method to search depending on sub-device, i.e. looking for a PC using its UPS's information (such as serial number), or, looking for a PC that has some associated monitor. In general, there is no direct method that enables you to look for some database entity depending on other entity related to it using one-to-one relationship.
5 / View equipments related to a specific custodian
ISDIS does not support searching and viewing data from two entities related in one-to-many relationships, i.e. viewing equipments (PC, UPS, Printer,…) relate a specific custodian.
6 / View computer history
It would be more efficient, if we could see the computer history (maintenance, change history for its values) while visiting its record. The only method available is by going to reports.
7 / Records Auto numbering
Primary key for records to be created automatically, not to make the user writing them; it is not accepted in any way that data needed by database system for its internal functionality, and has no meaning for the user, to be entered manually by the user of the application, and to require him to pay his attention for it.
8 / Disable Filter by Div/Location
It would be better if the restriction, to filter by division and location for adding some new device, to be removed, because it introduces extra pages to be downloaded by the client computer.
9 / Simplify the process of adding a new equipment
It would be more efficient to simplify the process of adding a new equipment record.
ISDIS requires you to go through long filtering procedure in order to add a new record. This procedure can be easily simplified by adding the department field to the required record's data.
10 / Change the device main identity of the device to be the Locator Card
Change the device main identity of the device to be the Locator Card not the name of the computer, which is subject for change at any time; such as re-installing the OS after hard disk failure. Also, Locator Card is considered by P&LD as an identifier for any UNRWA equipment.
11 / Support for mass data import
Notes' fields are too short. And this filed is required to contain unclassified long descriptive information.
12 / Add bookmaking feature
One of needed facilities is type of bookmaking for various equipments, with some predefined bookmark class or type, with the ability to:
· Include notes related to the bookmark for specific device.
· Ability for filter devices depending on these bookmarks.
· Ability to create a report for devices bookmarked.
· Ability to establish new bookmark identities to be used for bookmaking.
· Ability to introduce newer types of bookmarks.
13 / "Show child information (HDD, CDRom … etc) in reports"
When creating reports for PCs, the properties of these PCs are not included, such as the HD capacity, memory size, CPU speed, processor type, monitor size, NIC presence, CD-ROM presence, FDD existence, location, custodian's department, status of the PC, etc.
14 / Show PC information in Hardware summary report
Hardware summary report, when exported to excel sheet, does not include any type of information about the computers or other equipment properties.
15 / "Enhance filtering features (CPU Speed, HD capacity … etc)"
No reporting facility that filters computers or any other device depending on criteria applied on its properties, such as memory size, CPU speed, HD capacity, etc.
16 / Create reports using SQL commands
It would be nice to include some interface that enable you access the database and create reports using SQL commands, with read-only permissions.
