Dance Guidelines

2013-2014

1.  Except for Junior Prom and Senior Ball, school dances end at 10:00 p.m. Parties responsible for transporting students home from dances should be at the dance site at 10:00 p.m. Under no circumstances will students be allowed to return to a dance after they have left the building.

2.  All school rules are applicable and in force during dances.

3.  Any illegal activities, including, but not limited to drug or alcohol use or possession, will result in a suspension of 3-5 days, and the appropriate law enforcement agency will be contacted.

  1. A student who is suspended as a result of any misconduct at a school dance will not be allowed to attend any school dance for the remainder of the school year.

4.  Students must present their IHS student Identification to be admitted to dances

5.  Guests must be at least a freshman in high school and not older than 20 years of age.

6.  Irvington administrators developed the following dance behavior guidelines:

  1. Sexually suggestive dancing will not be tolerated.*
  2. Feet should be on the floor at all times*
  3. Hands must remain visible and may not be on knees or the floor*
  4. Students are not allowed to bend over while dancing; they must remain vertical*
  5. Students may not lie down on the floor while dancing*
  6. All articles of clothing worn into the dance must be worn out of the dance.
  7. Students are aware of expectations for appropriate conduct and dress, and in addition to this form, students will be warned through announcements and immediately before the dance begins. Therefore, students will receive no warnings once the dance begins, they will be asked immediately to leave the dance. Students who dance inappropriately or break any of the school rules will be removed from the dance by one of the administrators or escorted out by the school resource officer, if necessary. Students asked to leave the dance will not be eligible to attend the next scheduled school dance. Junior and Seniors who violate the dress code or dancing guidelines, may regain the right to attend her grade-level prom or ball by fulfilling requirements determined by his or her grade-level administrator.

Dance Dress Code

Hello dance and MORP dance- Casual

Students may wear any clothing deemed appropriate for a normal school day.

Homecoming and Winter Ball- Semi Formal

Girls: An appropriate-length, nice dress is appropriate

Boys: Cotton slacks or dress pants and a button-down, or polo shirt is appropriate. NO JEANS may be worn.

Proms-Formal.

Girls: An appropriate-length, nice dress is appropriate

Boys: A tuxedo or Dress slacks with a button-down shirt and tie.

Announcements will be made to students regarding dance and dress code policies prior to each dance.

*Whatever dancing moves or behavior a chaperone deems improper and/or indecent will not be permitted.
