Preparing your Equipment for an IronPlanet Inspection

To ensure the best presentation of your equipment, Sellers should complete the preparation steps below PRIOR to the inspection.

  1. Make sure the equipment is at the designated location and accessible by the inspector (e.g. not blocked by other equipment). It’s also very important that there is adequate space for the equipment to be operated and photographed free of background distractions.
  2. Make sure the keys are available, that the equipment can be started and has enough fuel for a test period. We recommend you confirm starting a day or two before inspector is to arrive.
  3. Make sure the Point of Contact knows which equipment is to be inspected, and that an operator is available for assistance and demonstration of the equipment as necessary (particularly if the equipment is unique or complex such as cranes, etc.).
  4. Make sure all attachments and accessories to be sold with the equipment are in the same location as the equipment and are ready for inspection. If the equipment currently has attachments that are NOT to be sold, please ensure that the attachments are removed from the equipment.
  5. Make sure all tires are inflated, as appropriate.
  6. Make sure all fluid levels are topped-off and at the appropriate levels.
  7. A clean machine will be more attractive to buyers and facilitates a thorough inspection, so it’s important that the equipment is clean prior to the inspection.
  1. Wash the machine; remove mud from the undercarriage, gooseneck, linkage and all other areas.
  2. Clean the engine compartment.
  3. Clean the operator’s station.
  4. Remove debris in cab, for example: old rags, trash, and empty containers.
  1. If you have any company logo decals you want to remove to “de-identify” the machine, these should be removed prior to inspection.
  2. The equipment should have a working hour meter.
  3. Perform any desired maintenance, repairs and fluid services. For example: paint and apply new decals, fix leaks, and repair any broken or worn parts.
  4. Prepare a copy of any maintenance records and major repairs performed, if available, and provide a copy to your IronPlanet Sales Representative.
  5. Prepare a copy of EPA engine certification data if available, and provide these copies to the inspector at the time of inspection.
  6. All the machines should be identifiable by S/N plates or stampings.
  7. Items are NOT to be used after our inspection.
