The Irish Georgian Society invites applications for its Architectural and Original Drawing Awards 2014 from Irish architects or architectural practices, building surveyors, engineers and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings in Ireland.
There will be two award categories: one for a conservation project and one for an original drawing (non-CAD) relating to an historic building or structure.
Applications concerning historic buildings of all types, including vernacular, are welcome. Previously shortlisted projects include churches, civic structures, follies and houses both urban and rural. Application forms for the awards are available on the Society’s website () and applications must be received in the Society’s offices before 12 noon on Friday 6th June 2014.
No entry fee is required to participate

ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION AWARD &
ORIGINAL DRAWING AWARD
The Irish Georgian Society’s Architectural Conservation Award and Original Drawing Award are to encourage excellence in the area of conservation and to celebrate those conservation professionals and practitioners responsible for projects of merit.
There will be 2 categories of Awards as follows :follows:
Category 1
Award for a Conservation Project by architects in Ireland or Irish architectural firms, building surveyors and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings in Ireland. The term ‘Conservation’ is interpreted as per the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland definition to include works of preservation, restoration, adaptation and maintenance of buildings and sites.
Category 2
Award for an original architectural (non CAD) drawing relating to an historic building/structure, in Ireland.
Terms & Conditions.
- The Judges reserve the right to make or not make any award. The Judges’ decision will be final in all matters including validating or otherwise any application.
- In Category 1 works must have been completed between January 2012 – May 2014, must be located in Ireland and have been carried out by architects in Ireland or Irish architectural firms, building surveyors or other appropriately qualified professionals.
- In Category 2 the original drawing (non-CAD) must have been executed in the last five years.
- The Award will be in the form of a Parchment, which will be presented to the Client and professional team at a ceremony in Autumn 2014.
- There is no Entry Fee.
- An entry will imply the granting of permission to publish all materials and particulars of the project free of copyright restrictions. The winning project will be presented in the Irish Architectural and Decorative Studies, (the Journal of the Irish Georgian Society) and/or the Irish Georgian Society Newsletter and promotional material.
- Access to submitted projects by the Judging Panel must be arranged by the Applicant for the final shortlist of selected projects.
- Confirmation that application/presentation boards will be collected from IGS offices the City Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2. Alternatively confirmation that return of application/presentation boards will not be required. Entries not collected within one month after the award ceremony will not be the responsibility of the Irish Georgian Society.

- Application must be accompanied by drawings of plans, sections & elevations sufficient to explain the project plus good quality colour photographs at 300 dpi images of the project before, during & after conservation on not more than two A1 presentation boards.
- Drawings & photographs on a CD must be submitted with the project name & documentation for use in promotion of the award together with the name of the architect and client.

This should be prepared by the contractors/craftspersons/conservation professionals involved in the project and should provide clear details of the works and how they were carried out. Works should adhere to the conservation principles outlined in the Architectural Heritage Protection Guidelines for Planning Authorities, Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

- Site location map, which clearly illustrates the location of the structure in red.
- Written consent from owner of structure (if not applicant).
- Copy of planning permission (where required for works).
- Sufficient drawings and photosto illustrate project on not more than two A1 presentation boards
- A CD of the drawings & photographs and completed Application Form
- Confirmation that application/presentation boards will be collected from IGS offices the City Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2. Alternatively confirm that return of application/presentation boards documents will not be required.
