IQ Awards– Terms & Conditions of Entry

General

  1. The promoter of the IQ Awards (“Competition”) is The University of Western Australia (ABN 37 882 817 280) of 35 Stirling Highway, Crawley, Western Australia 6009 (“Promoter‟).
  2. Details on eligibility, how to enter and the prizes for the Competition are set out in these terms and conditions of entry (“Terms and Conditions”). By entering into this Competition, entrants are deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
  3. To the extent of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any other reference to this Competition, these Terms and Conditions prevail.

Who can enter

  1. Subject to clause5, any person worldwide of any age, who has fulfilled the requirements set out in these Terms and Conditionsis eligible to enter the Competition.
  2. Employees of the Promotoror its associated agencies and companies, and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter this Competition.

How to enter

  1. Eligible persons may enter the Competition by nominating themselves or others via an online application form:
  2. The Promotor has the discretion to deem incomprehensible, illegible, non-compliant and incomplete entries invalid.

Number of entries permitted

  1. Entrants may submit multiple entries to the competition.

Prizes on offer

  1. The total value of the Research Innovation and Enterprise Awardis $2,500AUD.
  2. The prizeconsists of a $2,500 grant to directly support the progression of their innovation.
  3. The prize is subject to the following rules:
  4. the prize winning entries shall be selected by the Promotor at its absolute discretion (subject to clause 21a);
  5. the prize must be taken as stated at clause 10 and is non-transferable, and non-exchangeable.
  6. the Promotor takes no responsibility for the loss of the prize or the inability of the prize
  7. The winner acknowledges and agrees that no other payment, cost, fee or prize is payable to the winner by the Promotor other than as expressly stated in clauses 10 and 11 above.
  8. The total value of the UWA Innovation Champion Award is $2,500AUD.
  9. The prize consists of a $2,500 grant to fund a new or existing project that supports a culture of innovation, enterprise and industry engagement at UWA.
  10. The prize is subject to the following rules:
  11. the prize winning entries shall be selected by the Promotor at its absolute discretion (subject to clause 21b);
  12. the prize must be taken as stated at clause 10 and is non-transferable, and non-exchangeable.
  13. the Promotor takes no responsibility for the loss of the prize or the inability of the prize
  14. The winner acknowledges and agrees that no other payment, cost, fee or prize is payable to the winner by the Promotor other than as expressly stated in clauses 10 and 11 above.
  15. The total value of the Student Startup of the Year is $2,600AUD.
  16. The prize consists of a a $2,000 grant for the winners to invest in their business, and one 12 month co-working membership for Bloom Lab at St Catherine’s College (valued at $600).
  17. The prize is subject to the following rules:
  18. thestartup founder or co-founder must be a current UWA student (enrolled at the time of application).
  19. the UWA student must be available to pitch at the awards ceremony on 7 June 2017 and attend a rehearsal session during Wk/c 22 May 2017.
  20. thestartup enterprise does not have to be tech-orientated but should have the potential to grow/scale quickly (the characteristic that distinguishes a startup from a small business).
  21. the prize winning entries shall be selected by the Promotor at its absolute discretion (subject to clause 21c);
  22. the prize must be taken as stated at clause 10 and is non-transferable, and non-exchangeable.
  23. the Promotor takes no responsibility for the loss of the prize or the inability of the prize
  24. The winner acknowledges and agrees that no other payment, cost, fee or prize is payable to the winner by the Promotor other than as expressly stated in clauses 10 and 11 above.

Open, close and draw and publish dates

  1. The competition commences on 3 April 2017 at 09:01 AWST and closes on 12 May 2017at 16:59 AWST (“Promotional Period‟). Entries must be received by the Promoter during the Promotional Period to be valid. Entries received after this time will not be included in the Competition and the Promoter accepts no responsibility for late, lost, misdirected, incorrect or invalid entries.
  2. The prize winner for the Research Innovation and EnterpriseAwardwill be determined by an independent judging panel who will evaluate entries based on:a strong understanding of the problem and target audience, the extent to which the solution is new, innovative and/or remarkably better that existing alternatives and the impact of the innovation (current and potential).Three finalists will be selected for the award, with the winner announced at the awards ceremony on 7 June 2017.
  3. The prize winner for the UWA Innovation Champion will be determined by an independent judging panel who will evaluate entries based on:demonstrated leadership to connect the faculty/department with industry and/or community, evidence of innovative approaches that have positively impacted on the organisation and its stakeholders, and a demonstrated track record of results achieved through inspiring others for success through effective leadership and/or mentoring.Three finalists will be selected for the award, with the winner announced at the awards ceremony on 7 June 2017.
  4. The prize winner for the Student Startup of the Year will be determined by an independent judging panel who will evaluate entries based on:Problem/solution fit, Competitive positioning, Team strength /skills, Social/economic impact (potential or current). Presentation. Three finalists will be selected for the award. Each team will be required to deliver a five-minute pitch at the awards ceremony on 7 June 2017.
  5. The prize selection will take place on Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 17:00 AWST.
  6. The winner will be notified by phone or email within five business days of the prize selection.
  7. The prize must be claimedby the winnerwithin 30 days of notification of winning. Winners will be required to claim their prize by collecting it from the Promotor. Details of where and how to collect the prize will be provided by the Promotor at the time it notifies the winner. The Prize will not be shipped or otherwise delivered to the winner.

Privacy and miscellaneous

  1. The Promoter will collect, use and manage personal information provided in each entry in accordance with its privacy policy accessible online at:
  2. By submitting an entry, the entrant acknowledges and agrees that it is giving the Promotor permission to use their entry for marketing, publicity or promotional purposes.
  3. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promotor (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity) whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Competition, including, but not limited to, liabilities arising from or in connection with:
  4. any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control);
  5. any theft, unauthorized access or third party interference;
  6. any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter;
  7. any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions;
  8. any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant;
  9. redemption of the prize; and
  10. participation in the Competition
