IPCPUBPREP Translation Manual1/6

1.Introduction

The purpose of this document is to describe how to translate IPC publication software user interface from English to another language.

2.Configuration

2.1.Publication languages

The file local_settings.py defines settings that are specific to the server hosting the application.

This file is located under /data/ipcpubprep/ipcpubprep:

vi /data/ipcpubprep/ipcpubprep/local_settings.py

Examples:

To publish in Spanish only:

LANGS = ['es']

To publish in Portuguese and English (in that order):

LANGS = ['pt', 'en']

WARNINGS:

  • In case you want to publish in two languages, one of them must be English (en).
  • each time you modify the LANGS parameter you will also need to redo the search engine configuration as described below.

FOREIGN_LANGS: primary language for which CPC and FI data are to be published.

For example, to bind CPC and FI data to Portuguese:

FOREIGN_LANGS = {'cpc': 'pt', 'fi': 'pt'}

Restart the application in order above change to take effect:

systemctl restart ipcpub

systemctl restart ipcpub_tasks

2.2.Fixed Texts Master File

  • Download the ipc_fixed_texts_YYYYMMDD.zip from

where YYYYMMDD is the concerned IPC Version.

  • Unzip the file.

Copy XX_ipc_fixed_texts_YYYYMMDD.xml to YY_ipc_fixed_texts_YYYYMMDD.xml
where XX is the source languageand YY is the two letters code of your national language

  • Use any Unicode compliant text or, ideally, XML editor to edit YY_ipc_fixed_texts_YYYYMMDD.xml
  • Each text entry should be entered as follow:

From the lang XX:

<text id="text_unique_id"text<text>

To lang YY:

<text id="text_unique_id"translated text<text>

  • Save the file using UTF-8 encoding.
  • Place a copy of the file in the IPCPUB server: /data/ipcpubprep/data/IPC/
  • Run the following commands:

cd /data/ipcpubprep
sudo ./bin/ipcpubprep build_translation YYYYMMDD

Where YYYYMMDD is the IPC Version date as it appears in your Fixed Texts Master File name.

  • Check for possible error messages in /data/ipcpubprep/logs/operations
  • Restart the application:

sudo systemctl restart ipcpub

sudo systemctl restart ipcpub_tasks

2.3.IPCPUB Help

The translation steps are:

  • Download the MS-Word document (English version) from:
  • Translate it and save it to PDF under:
    /data/ipcpubprep/media/help/xx/help.pdf
    Where xx is the two letters code of your national language.

2.4.Search engines

2.4.1.Terms and Cross-references search

Run the following commands on the computer where IPCPUB is installed:

sudo /data/ipcpubprep/bin/ipcpubprep build_solr_schema

Above command generates in /tmp/schema.xml a Solr Schema that supports your national language as defined above (see “Publication languages”).

Such schema.xml file has to be copied under /var/solr/data/ipcpub/conf on the computer where Solr is installed (see Installation Manual).

The following operations must be performed on the computer where Solr is installed:

Repeat these two commands replacing xx by the language(s) code your IPCPUB instance has to support:

cp /opt/solr/example/files/conf/lang/stopwords_xx.txt

/var/solr/data/ipcpub/conf/lang

cp /opt/solr/example/files/conf/lang/contractions_xx.txt

/var/solr/data/ipcpub/conf/lang

Note: it is not a problem if above source files do not exist under /opt/solr/example/files/conf/lang for your language, IPCPUB is already aware of that and will behave accordingly.

chown -R solr.solr /var/solr/data/ipcpub

Then, restart Solr by running the following commands:

sudo systemctl restart solr

2.4.2.IPCCAT

By default IPCCAT search operations are performed against the IPCCAT engine installed at WIPO which support English and French languages only.

In case you are running your own IPCCAT engine you have to change the IPCCAT_URL setting in /data/ipcpubprep/ipcpubprep/local_settings.py.

For example, if you are running IPCCAT on the same server as IPCPUB on port 8080:

IPCCAT_URL=

Then, restart IPCPUB by running the following commands:

sudo systemctl restart ipcpub

CAUTION: You must not activate IPCCAT search option if you are not running your own IPCCAT engine or if English or French is not one of the language(s) you defined in/data/ipcpubprep/ipcpubprep/local_settings.py LANGS setting.

To activate/deactivate IPCCAT search option, see IPCPUB Operation Manual.

For information on obtaining and installing IPCCAT, please contact Patrick FIÉVET ().

2.4.3.STATS

STATS search operations are performed againstPatentScope installed at WIPO which support a limited number of languages.

CAUTION: you must not activate STATS search option if none of the language(s) you defined in /data/ipcpubprep/ipcpubprep/local_settings.pyLANGS settingis supported by PatentScope.

To activate/deactivate STATS search option, see IPCPUB Operation Manual.

For more information on STATS/PatentScope language support, please contact Patrick FIÉVET ().
