COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Law Enforcement II provides the knowledge and skills to prepare for a career in law enforcement. This course includes the ethical and legal responsibilities, operation of police and emergency telecommunication equipment, and courtroom testimony.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, participants will be expected to:

1.  use telecommunication equipment.
2.  present testimony in legal proceedings in accordance with courtroom procedures.
3.  recognize the importance of using anger management techniques to resolve conflict and reduce anger.
4.  analyze procedures and protocols for domestic violence.
5.  explore civil law enforcement procedures.
6.  analyze local and state law enforcement procedures pertaining to alcohol laws.
7.  explore laws and procedures to enforce violations of driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence.
8.  evaluate situations requiring the use of force
9.  describe procedures designed to safely transport a person in custody.
10.  conducts interviews and interrogations of individuals ensuring protection of rights as outlined in the United
States Constitution.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: Lecture, group exercises, audio-visual usage, outside speakers, “hands-on” learning

(latent fingerprints, DWI demo, etc.) and computer application may all be used in the teaching of course.

STUDENT EVALUATION:

1. Daily Work Assignments (40% of Grade)

2. Major Grades (60% of Grade)

a.  Exams

b.  Projects

3. Fall and Spring semester averages will be computed by counting the 6 weeks grades

as 4/5 of the semester grade and the semester exam as 1/5 of the total grade.

SUPPLIES: Pen, paper, and a folder

HOMEWORK: Must be turned in within the exact amount of days the student was absent plus one day.

LATE WORK: Late work may be accepted. Academic work(daily work) will be accepted with 5 points deducted for each day late. Academic achievement work(major grades) will be accepted with 10 points deducted for each day late.
