Introductions/Welcome

Chapter President – Alison Ryan – welcomed those in attendance and the meeting began at approx. 11:45 a.m.

Activities

  1. Membership Drive – the Daytona State College Chapter has been set a goal of signing-up 180 new members – to accomplish this we have identified non-members and created an e-mail distribution group and have shared with this group the weekly Legislative Updates –this has attracted a few new members but nothing like the 180 needed to meet our goal. The Chapter is currently operating without a membership chair, however a focused communication drive between now and the Membership Conference (July 15 & 16) could yield results, particularly if directed to Adjuncts (annual membership fee is only $10).
  2. Community Service – the Chapter is continuing with its efforts for location animal rescue organizations including Second Chance Rescue with drop-box locations around campus; Norm Shepard continues with collecting stamps to benefit Habitat for Humanity (West Volusia); and we discussed joining forces with an existing department/team for the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk scheduled for September.
  3. Year Book – Going For Gold! The Chapter’s year book entry for 2009 resulted in a Silver award, this year we’re Going For Gold with the help of Michi Gosney who agreed to chair a sub-committee.
  4. Professor of the Year Award (chapter) – something to attract faculty and adjuncts to joining FACC and becoming more involved at Chapter and State level – although not able to attend today’s meeting Charlene Latimer, who’s serving as a judge for the state-wide competition, agreed to explore this suggestion.
  5. Book Scholarship – reporting a healthy fund balance of $4,374.88 – Margaret Overbey chairs this committee who reviews applications three times a year.
  6. Treasury Report - $1,857.89
  7. FACC Region III Spring Conference – 6/24/10 – at least three members will be attending from the Chapter.
  8. Lunch & Learn (Monthly) – proposed idea for bringing members together, also suggested that chapter meetings be held as breakfast meetings to increase attendance.
  9. Fun-draising – the Pasta Dinner/Auction nets approx. $2,000 but is a lot of work – need approx. 40 volunteers – anyone interested in chairing this event for 2010?
  10. Retirees – a relatively new commission, however a difficult group to reach – perhaps if a member is retiring they’d consider taking on this aspect as a way to keep in touch.
  11. Chapter Bylaws Review – Norm Shepard agreed to review.

Convention – Jacksonville, Nov. 17-19, 2010

  1. Funding for travel has been an issue for a number of years, however with support from administration we should be able to send a delegation of 10 members – watch this space!
  2. Convention Special Project - TBA

Officers 2010 and 2011

  1. Membership Conference is coming up in July (15 &16), this would be a great opportunity for anyone considering becoming a member – learn more about the job!

Meeting adjourned at approx. 12:30 p.m.
