Introduction to Family and Consumer Science
Syllabus
Course Description:
This course is designed to promote the development of
knowledge and skills that students need as family members. The
major units covered will be:
*Food science and nutrition
*Child development
*Financial and resource management
*Balancing family, work and community
responsibility
Goals:
The major goal of this course is to promote mastery of the state
academic standards in the four areas listed above. This will help
to promote personal maturity, as well as strengthening the
students’ ability to contribute to the well-being of their family
both now and in the future.

Course Requirements:
Students must complete classroom and homework activities
including written quizzes, tests, class projects, and participating
cooperatively in small group situations. Students will be involved
in the development and implementation of a preschool designed
for 3-5 year old children. Mature, responsible attitudes and
actions are expected at all times. Missed lab experiences may
be made up by making alternate arrangements with the
instructor.
Assignment Policy:
Any work taken out of class to be completed must be turned in
the next day for full credit. There will be a reduction of points for work turned in one day late, and no acceptance after that. When a student is absent from class it is their responsibility to ask the
instructor for missed assignments, and to turn in the following day, unless otherwise stated by the teacher.
Grading Procedure:
The number of points earned by the student will be divided by the
number of points possible to determine a percentage. The letter grade will then be determined by the school grading scale.
Class Policies:
Be on time sitting quietly in assigned seats before the bell.
Come prepared to participate in assignments and activities.
Show respect for others, school equipment/supplies and self.
Exhibit a positive attitude toward learning and demonstrate responsible actions.
Be a good listener and follow directions.
Stay on task avoiding the wasting of any time on distractions.
