“Public Service Announcement”

Applying Career Research Information

Instructions:

  • Students will work individually on this project.
  • Having previously used the Internet in order to complete your career job search and coming up with your top 3 choices, you will choose 1 of those options to create a final product about.
  • Students will have the option of creating 1 of 3 final products:
  • Public Service Announcement
  • Flyer/Brochure
  • PowerPoint Presentation
  • Keep in mind, whichever final product you decide on, will be subject to the same grading rubric.
  • What is a PSA made of – read below:
  • Choose your topic ... THE JOB YOU PICKED
  • Time for some research - you need to know your stuff ... YOU HAVE THE RESEARCH
  • Consider your audience ... YOUR CLASSMATES
  • Grab your audience's attention. ... MAKE IT COLORFUL/CREATIVE/CATCHY
  • Create a script and keep your script to a few simple statements ... KEEP IT SHORT
  • Storyboard your script … HOW DOES IT LOOK (start-middle-finish)
  • Film your footage and edit your PSA … FILM OR TYPE
  • Find your audience and get their reaction … WE WILL PRESENT IN CLASS

Day 1:

  • Finish working on their Career Job Research Project.
  • Preview the following Public Service Announcements on YouTube:
  • “Student Made PSA on Water Consumption”
  • “No Kid Hungry - Public Service Announcement with Jeff Bridges”
  • “Dont Text and Drive PSA”
  • Decide on which career you will highlight
  • Decide which final project you will complete as a group
  • Begin working on final project

Day 2:

  • Finish working on final project and clean it up for presenting

Day 3:

  • Class presentations

What to include in your PSA:

  • Be creative, colorful, and catchy
  • Sell your career of choice
  • You want someone in the audience to want this job
  • Remember – this is your PSA – make it personal!
