DOC A DAY ASSIGNMENT

*Every student is required to complete AT LEAST 2 of these during 4th quarter. The practice one (Economic Stratification) can count if it is done well.

Student Requirements:

1. Locate an appropriate, relatively recent, and thought-provoking image, video clip, television program, feature film, news story, magazine article, or other media snippet that you can relate to a SPECIFIC element of the sociology curriculum. You MUST preview what you intend to use in its entirety. What you find must be in your possession, or readily available without need for a password or copyright restriction. It can be of any length, but you will need to pinpoint specifically what portion(s) can be directly accessed in case the entirety cannot be reasonably presented. It can be very short as well. Any part of the curriculum is appropriate, but you may be directed during the quarter to use a specific unit.

  1. Identify the specific topic and unit that you believe the media relates to. Write a short description – 3-5 sentences explaining the relationship between the media and the topic. New vocabulary and ideas should be briefly explained in this section. I will/can help you with this.
  2. Write AT LEAST 3 guiding discussion questions/prompts that focus the attention of our viewers to the topic and the relationship that it has to the media. I will/can help you with this.
  3. 1 question/prompt should be a pre-view question. It should be about the sociological topic itself and is not required to have any relationship to your media.
  4. 1 question/prompt should be a post view question. It should ask the students to tie in their thoughts about the topic and the media.
