Description

Inthis activity students will createa border with acompleted title block tobe usedforallfuturedrawings.Whenfinished,studentswillsavetheborderas a drawingtemplatewithallthesettings necessary savedwithinit(layers,limits,grid,etc.).

Terminology

Absolutecoordinateentry:amethodofspecifyingapositioninthex,y,zaxestoestablishapoint;basedontheCartesian system. Example: If you type4,2(nospaces)foralocation,thepointtheentitywouldstart/endatwouldbe4unitsalongthexaxisand2unitsupontheyaxis.

Applicationmenu:theiconinthetopleftcornerofthescreenthatcontainsNew, Open, Save,etc.

Array:acommandusedtocreatemultiplecopiesofapatternineitherarectangleoracircle.

Commandline: anarea,typicallyatthebottomofthescreen,thatallowsforkeyboard input,orshowsmessagesorpromptsforinformation.InCADsoftware keyboardentryissometimeseasier.

Drawingtemplate:adefault filethatconsistsofthesettings youwouldconsistentlyuse manytimesover.

Entity:inCADprograms,itistheobject (line, circle,text,etc.).

Objectsnap(Osnap):amodethatallowsyouto“snap”toanobject(line)atitsendpoint,midpoint, etc.

Offset:acommandthatcreatesacopyofanentity(line, circle,etc.)aspecifiedparalleldistanceawayfromthecurrentobject(s)selected.

Polarcoordinateentry:allows youtoestablishanx,y,zpositionataspecificlengthandanglerelativetotheLASTpoint you hadspecified. Example: You want a45-degreeanglethatis2unitslong.Thecommandlinewouldbe@2<45.

Relativecoordinateentry:allows youtoestablishanx,y,zpositionrelativetotheLASTpointyou hadspecified. Example: Whendrawinga line, your lastpoint was 4,2(nospaces).Now youwant togo over 2onthexand0ontheyto make aline2unitslongonthexaxis.Thecommandlinewouldbe@2,0.

Scale:acommandusedtoproportionallyresizeobjects;themultiplyingfactor by which you makeanobjectlargerorsmaller.

Snap:usedtolimit yourmovementofthecrosshairsofthecursortoapredeterminedintervaltoaidindrawingtospecific measurements.

Trim:acommandusedto“trim”off excesslengthofanobjectorentitytoendexactly attheendorintersectionofanotherentity.

Students willshowthe teacher their completedassignment.Theteacher canhave theassignment printedout orlook at it onthe computer screen.If the student does notproduceexactlywhatwasshown,thenanassociated mark based on mistakes can be derived.

b.Gotothe ribbonlayerpulldownor typeLAYERto access theLayerProperties ManagertochangethecurrentlayertoBorder(Figures 2 and3).

c.GototheObject SnapSetting. TypeOSNAPinthecommandbar.Orhoveronthebottomtoolbarandrightmouse click on the Object Snap icon. Then, left mouse click on Settings.

Note: Youmayhave tochangethese settings to beableto drawyourborder and textbecausethe lines foryour title blockmaynotstart where you wantthem to if thewrongOsnapisselected(Figure4).

b.Tosaveas a template, select “SaveAs” from eitherthe Application Menu or the QuickAccess toolbar in theupper-left corner of the program. Call the templateimperial border-name.dwg(Figures 8 and9).
