Alexandre Renoir, great-grandson of French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), grandson of Claude Renoir (1901-1969), and son of Paul Renoir (1925-2005).This is a rare opportunity to meet this extraordinary artist and to view his magnificent artwork. His works currently reside in quite important private collections throughout North America, Asia, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.

Alexandre has re-imagined and most certainly re-inspired one of the world’s most famous pieces of art: that of his great-grandfather’s “The Boating Party”, housed in the prestigious Phillips Collection.

Alexandre Renoir was born in Cagnes Sur Mer in the south of France. When he was 4, the family moved to Canada, but even after leaving France, as the great-grand son of the great French Impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alexandre grew-up surrounded in The Art and Artists.

His famous family includes film director Jean Renoir, actor Pierre Renoir, director of photography Claude Renoir Jr., and Claude's daughter actress Sophie Renoir, to name a few.

Artistic from a young age, Alexandre went to various arts-oriented schools including the Virginia Park School for the artistically gifted and the Victoria School for the Arts and Performance where he graduated in 1993. In addition to his formal education he also attended classes at the Alberta Museum on Aboriginal Arts and Crafts gaining further experience in jewelry making, sculpture, pottery, woodworking, stone carving, printmaking, and painting.

Although he was immersed in the arts and culture of his environment, Alexandre remained primarily an onlooker until his drawing abilities were tapped by his brother. From the first sheet, Alexandre could naturally draw in various styles; his charcoal drawings are created with a sense of ease and grace that is reminiscent of the beauty and charm of the impressionism period. Alexandre’s work currently resides in private collections in numerous cities throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. His work was also featured in the Tennessee State Museum for the exhibition “Strokes of Genius”.

Alexandre Renoir was born in the town of Cagnes Sur Mer on July 7th 1974. Cagnes Sur Mer is a well-wooded and park covered urban settlement located in the Côte d’Azur, South of France. Alexandre'shome town was also the retreat and final home of his famed great-grandfather, impressionist painter Pierre Auguste Renoir. Later this beautiful home became the Renoir Museum, a popular destination with both locals and visitors alike.

At the age of 5, Alexandre Renoir and his family moved to Western Canada. His family, seeking new opportunities, still wanted to keep strong ties with the artistic and creative roots of Southern France. Alexander's exposure to art began at a very young age. Always surrounded with art and artists, Alexandre was immersed in the family's history and French culture. While drawing, sketching or creating it was obvious that he was highly imaginative. His parents, seeing his creative abilities, decided he should be in art oriented schools and classes, which continued throughout his life and to this day.

During his younger years Alexander tried his hand in many different endeavors including: goldsmithing, silversmithing, jewelry design, graphic arts and design, photography, and theater arts. No matter what he did it never seemed to be the perfect fit. Always returning home to paint and relax he wondered what the future would hold. Sometimes you cannot see the forest for the trees.

Then, in 2004, Alexander was given the opportunity to pursue a full time career in painting by a prestigious gallerist and publisher in Beverly Hills, California. And that was Alexandre’s breakthrough moment. Finally realizing what he was always meant to do, he dove into this career with a passion.

Over the next 12 years Alexander has traveled the world and appeared at many exhibits. Always sharpening his skills and evolving his work, he is now collected in over 14 countries by many international, prestigious, and influential clients.

Alexander lives and works in Southern California. Living in the Sunshine State with his son Felix, his beloved wife Maria and step daughter Julia, they live a life immersed in art, life and love.

Although Alexandre perceives himself as an impressionist painter, his style and technique is vastly different than that of his great-grandfather. Using palette knives and an impasto style he creates bright and joyful works. Taking to heart his great-grandfather's philosophy: “there are enough dark and ugly things in the world, I am not going to add any more”, Alexander prefers to paint the joyful and serene things in life.

The Renoir family having many talented and artistic people in it, only has one full-time professional artist after Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Alexandre Renoir is that artist. A showman and historian, he calls himself the family gossip. Knowing many of the family stories that do not make it to the history books, he is happy to share them with those that come and see him.
