Interstate 75 Pavement Rehabilitation s1

Interstate 75 Reconstruction

Fourth Street to SR 81

Lima/Allen County

Project Facts

Project particulars

Project location: Interstate 75 from Fourth Street to just north of SR 81 in Lima

Construction cost: $63 million ($59 million for I75/SR81; $4 million for SR117/309)

Prime Contractor: Beaver Excavating Co., Canton

Construction Schedule: March 2013 to fall 2015 (three construction seasons)

Reason for the project

·  Interstate 75 through Lima and Allen County was constructed in the 1950s and the pavement and bridges are deteriorating

·  Interstate 75 in this area will be brought up to modern design standards which will improve safety and traffic flow

Project Description

The main features of the project are:

·  Complete reconstruction of pavement, bridge and drainage structures on approximately three miles of Interstate 75

·  Removal of the existing concrete median barrier wall from Fourth Street to SR 81; replace with a 50-foot grass median and cable barrier system

·  Construction of noise walls along both sides of Interstate 75 from SR 309 to Reservoir Road

·  Reconstruction and reconfiguration of three interchanges (Fourth Street, SR117/309, and SR81)

·  Realignment of roads near the SR 309 interchange (Dean Avenue, Wellesley Drive, Lost Creek Boulevard and Bryn Mawr Avenue)

·  Construction of an additional lane along I-75 in the southbound direction to connect the SR 309 and Fourth Street interchanges

·  Aesthetic elements and community branding included on bridges and noise walls

Maintenance of traffic

·  Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-75 in each direction throughout the duration of the project

(Over)

(Maintenance of traffic, cont’d.)

·  Ramp closures at Fourth Street, SR 117/309 and SR 81 will be necessary during reconstruction of the interchanges. Ramp closures will be coordinated so that no two consecutive interchanges are closed at the same time (work to be completed in 2013 at Fourth Street and SR117/309. Ramp closures at SR 81 will occur in 2014)

Additional Notes

·  Project also includes a safety upgrade on SR117/309 from just west of the Interstate 75 interchange to the Allen County Fairgrounds, east of Lima (see separate fact sheet)

·  Project also includes the reconstruction and reconfiguration of SR 81 under Interstate 75. SR 81 will be two lanes in each direction with a left-hand turn lane.
