Evan Turek was an exceptional mentor who was dedicated to helping shape the next generation of food science scientists and developing leaders in the field.Through Feeding Tomorrow, The Foundation of the Institute of Food Technologists, the Evan Turek Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate food science student beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year. The scholarship will be paid in two installments of $500.00 on August 15, 2012 and January 15, 2013.
In addition, the scholarship recipient will also have the opportunity to intern at Kraft Foods in the summer of 2012. The internship will pay a weekly salary and offer subsidized housing. The location of the internship assignment depends on Kraft Foods’ needs. Potential internship locations include Glenview, IL, East Hanover, NJ, Tarrytown, NY, or Madison, WI.
Internship/Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior university student pursuing a food science degree at an IFT approved university***
- Applicant’s major must align with an area of interest at Kraft Foods (agricultural engineering, biochemistry, chemical engineering, dairy science, food chemistry, food engineering, food packaging, non-thermal processing or related discipline)
- Applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA in food science
- Applicant must demonstrate exceptional leadership experience
- Applicant must join or renew student membership to IFT by May 1, 2012
- Applicant must have or obtain a F1 visa if he or she is an international student

- Applications must be submitted to the Feeding Tomorrow office by January 9, 2012
- All applications must be typed in English

Timeframe of Internship Recruitment
- Kraft Foods recruiters will conduct phone and video interviews for top candidates in mid February 2012
- Final candidatewill be notified with an acceptance letter by March 1, 2012
- Candidatewill begin a (10-12 week) internship with Kraft Foods beginning in mid May/June
- Candidate will also be invited to attend the 2012 IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo® at Kraft Foods’ expense
