Internship Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime
The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI) accepts a limited number of interns on an ad hoc basis. The objective of the internship programme is to enhance the educational experience of graduate and post-graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds through practical work assignments and on-the-job experience.
- Background
The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime is a network of prominent law enforcement, governance and development practitioners who are dedicated to seeking new and innovative strategies and responses to organized crime.
The Global Initiative has partnered with Babson College’s Initiative on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery to establish RESPECT: the Responsible and Ethical Private Sector Coalition against Trafficking.
This powerful initiative serves as a platform that brings together thought leaders, practitioners, and policy makers who have a clear understanding of what issues lie ahead to consider possible solutions to public and private sector challenges surrounding human trafficking.RESPECT mobilises the business community as a strategic partner to put this illicit trade out of business, but also support the business community with training material; identify best practices and positive experiences; and carve out a set of challenges to pursue with various collaborators.
The goal of RESPECT is to:
- Raise awareness and build understanding on human trafficking in global supply chains;
- Provide a platform for peer exchange, to share knowledge, present and improve best practices and existing strategies for countering human trafficking in supply chains, and to develop new initiatives to implement going forward;
- Publish industry-specific case studies for use by a wide audience;
- Provide stakeholders and decision makers (mainly from the private sector) with the tools they need to identify, map, and combat human trafficking in business supply chains;
- Generate momentum amongst the business community to share knowledge in the pursuit of improved prevention and mitigation of this issue
- Engage businesses and provide them with training tools;
- Create a forum for the business community to share its experience; and
- Link businesses with the UN, NGOs, and the youth to combat human trafficking.
- Scope of work
The intern will bring his/her expertise and networks to bear to:
- Support the RESPECT efforts to build a comprehensive bibliography and collection of links for the RESPECT Resource Centre;
- Support the monthly webinars;
- Writing and editing of RESPECT website content
- Supporting the production of RESPECT newsletter, brochures, etc
- Maintaining the RESPECTand GI social media accounts.
- Compile international mailing lists of media and journalist contacts;
- Support the project manager in the development and implementation of a Stakeholder Needs Assessment;
- Conducting a desk review on international foundations and other donor institutions;
- Provide input to other Global Initiative activities as requested.
III. Qualifications
Candidates may apply before completion of their undergraduate studies but the following minimum qualifications are required by the internship start date:
- Holds a first university degree or equivalent and is enrolled in a graduate degree programme of a recognised institution in fields related to political and social sciences, economics, international relations, law, public and business administration, or other relevant programmes.
- Excellent knowledge of English with fluency in speaking, reading and writing. Ability in another UN language is an asset
- Strong interest in working in human trafficking issues, with a strong focus on private sector and due diligence responses
- General IT competence and command of main office software programmes
- Internet communication and searching skills
- Social media skills
- Ability to work in a self-organised manner as this internship is home-based.
