Panther Foundations for Success:

Internship Development Program

2015 Program Overview

Panther Foundations for Success is a collaborative effort of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and corporate partners whose goal is to broaden the employment pool, provide soft skill education, and internship development opportunities to diverse students in engineering and business majors. The Panthers Foundations for Success program is designed in order to help prepare underrepresented undergraduates for the seamless transition to the workplace by targeting skills with academic preparation.

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, major in either business or engineering, and be able to work in the United States without sponsorship. Selected students will engage in mandatory, bi-weekly developmental meetings in order to develop soft skills and business practices for a semester. During this time, students will also partake in a research project for one of the three corporate partners, who would be their corporate sponsor. Upon completion of the course, the students will then intern with their corporate sponsor for the following summer.

The course focuses on six main skill development areas most sought after in the workplace. They include diversity and inclusion, resume writing and interview preparation, communication skills, emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and business professionalism. During this program, corporate site visits will be incorporated, as well as a final presentation and formal graduation dinner in order to present the research candidates gained about their corporate sponsor.
