To provide quality health insurance at an affordable cost to Columbia College Chicago’s International Student and Scholar Services, we are pleased to announce the International Student Sickness, Accident and Wellness Plan offered by LewerMarkStudent Insurance for the upcoming 2017-18 year.
Health care in the U.S. can be quite complicated and costly. A major accident or illness can create related expenses of $10,000 - $100,000 very quickly and very easily. If you do not have medical insurance to help cover some of the costs, you will be required to pay for these expenses.
Columbia College Chicago offers a robust mandatory health insurance coverage plan. All international students and visiting international scholars are automatically enrolled in the insurance plan.
The LewerMark Sickness and Accident Plan provides comprehensive coverage for students and scholars while at Columbia College Chicago.
Get and carry your health insurance card
Columbia and LewerMark are here to help you understand and use your policy.
- Download your health insurance card online by going to the website and click on “Student Login for I.D. card”
- Remember to carry your insurance identification card with youat all times.
- If you do not present a valid health insurance I.D. card at a hospital or doctor’s office, you will be expected to pay in full at the time of service.
- Your health insurance I.D. card is just as important to you as your college I.D. card, or your passport.

Being sick or injured away from home can be a stressful experience and more so if students don’t understand their health care options. Health care in the United States is very different from what you may be used to back home. For one thing, costs related to health care are expensive. Illnesses and accidents are always unexpected.
Highlights of the plan
- Wellness Benefit covers up to $500. of services, such as checkups, immunizations or clinic visits.
- $500,000 Annual maximum benefit per inquiry or sickness
- Annual out of pocket maximum: $3000.
- $0 deductible per policy year
- CIGNA PPO Network – 100% in network; 80% out-of-network
- Co-payments
- Cigna office visits: $20 and outside CIGNA network: $35
- Hospital: $50
- Emergency Room: $100
- $0 copay for services at CVS/ Pharmacy Minute Clinic; Walgreens Healthcare clinic; and The Clinic at Walmart
- Physical, mental health; substance abuse, chiropractic; physical therapy, acupuncture; and occupational therapy visits
- Preventative care services under the affordable care act: 100% in network after copay
- Prescription drug benefit through CIGNA Pharmacy Network; reimbursed up to 50%; maximum $2500 annual limit per policy year
- Ambulance services
- Careington dental and vision benefits: provides a discount network for dental and vision services. [Separate membership cards will be provided]
Also included in your insurance plan with LewerMark are:
- Mental health counseling: A toll fee number available 24/7 to assist you for any reason, whether school related, family issues, or adjusting to a new environment, the LewerMark Student Assistant Program will be available through a network of trained counselors ready to assist
- Legal assistance: Should you need advice when it comes to immigration, U.S. laws, liability, or any reason a qualified attorney could provide assistance, the LewerMark Student Assist Program will provide you with a free 30 minute consultation to assist with needs for professional legal advice. Referrals are available for additional fee based services as needed.
- Concierge service: can provide you with help in locating housing, or possibly finding a local grocer with food from your home country. The LewerMarkstudent assist program is available 24/7 to help students find resources for their day to day needs.

How to Pay
All international students and visiting scholars are automatically enrolled in the insurance plan and a charge for the insurance will be applied to your OASIS student account.
There are two ways to make your insurance payment:
- In person: Bring a check or money order made payable to “Columbia College Chicago” to the cashier’s window located on the 3rd floor of the 600 S. Michigan Avenue building. Be sure to write your OASIS number on the check, and indicate that it is a payment for “International Student Health Insurance”. Keep the receipt for your records.
- Online: Visit the student financial service website at Go to “Manage Your Account” and click on “Ways to Make a Payment to Columbia”.

Lewer’s Extended Coverage policy
New students to college in the United States are automatically covered for up to 30 days in advance of the start date on the health card. In addition, this plan also offers students and scholars coverage should they wish to travel anywhere in the U.S. and overseas, expect in their home country. This insurance plan is not usable in your home country.
