TEMPORARY STAFF DECLARATION
I understand that:
The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center (ISYVC) is a monastic order dedicated to the dissemination of the disciplines and philosophy of Yoga, both theory and practice. All aspirants who come to serve, learn and to practice the teachings come with the intention to develop the spirit of renunciation through selfless service. No member or officer (including the president) is allowed to receive a salary or hold any property as beneficial owner thereof.
To further instill the values of selfless service, all aspirants are required to bear the expenses for their own personal items needed for daily living, including any treatment from the Sivananda Institute for Health and items purchased from the Boutique or Sivananda Health Hut.
All students are required to follow the spiritual discipline of the ISYVC: vegetarianism, no tobacco, no alcohol, no drugs, and regular attendance at morning and evening meditation sessions. A student is also requested to participate in daily Yoga Asana Classes. The student agrees to make a sincere effort to practice the ethical and moral disciplines of Yama and Niyama*. Students must work to humbly serve God and our spiritual master.
If the above conditions are not met in the opinion of the Ashram Director or a majority of the Board of Directors of the ISYVC in his absence, the student can be requested to leave the ISYVC immediately without notice.
The undersigned has read all of the above rules and condition contained herein and agrees to honor them and to devote him or herself for the duration of this commitment to the rigorous discipline of a yoga aspirant in the service of the ISYVC pursuant to this agreement.
*Yamas and Niyamas are the ethical and moral precepts of Raja Yoga. The Yamas consist of: Ahimsa (Non-violence); Satya (Truthfullness); Brahmacharya (Continence); Asteya (Nonstealing); and Aparigraha (Non-covetousness). The Niyamas consist of Saucha (Internal and External Cleanliness and Purity); Santosha (Contentment); Tapas (Austerity of mind and body); Swadyaya (Study of scriptures and religious books); and Ishvarapranidhana (Worship of God and ultimate self-surrender).
