Updates:
-Steve Solbrekk from the St. Louis Park club presented City of Lakes with an opportunity to be a collaborator in a clean water project through World Vision in Honduras. The committee voted to use $2,000 from our i2013-14 budget.
-GSE team is coming from India and COL is hosting from May 19-21.
- Join us forRotary on the River- a boat party on the Mississippi on Sunday, May 19 from 3-5 p.m. that all are welcome to attend. Register and pay online.
- We need four people to host vocational opportunities the afternoon of Monday, May 20 in the area of logistics, government, and organizational leadership. Please contact Mary Daniels if you can help.
- Special thanks to COL members for hosting the team for their overnight stays: Dick Parrish, Fran Lyon-Dugin, Pat Burns, Kurt Nelson, and Gary Stang.
-The test we funded through CTI is yielding positive results. The field tests conducted in Haiti, Nicaragua, Senegal and Japan confirm that the PW-1 units are meeting the operating specifications. We committed $10,000 to this project and have spent $5,000 to date. The other $5,000 will now be used to fund deployment on a much larger scale. CTI will purchase and assemble 160-200 units to be rolled out and used under normal operating conditions in Haiti and Nicaragua. Thanks to Wally Wilsey for his continued leadership on this project.
-COL was approached by the Rotary club of Marilia Pioneiro (Brazil) club to be their partner in a Milk Bank project in Brazil. Women who are breastfeeding donate their extra milk to the bank, whichis donated to intensive care centers of five hospitals. The human milk bank has been around more than 20 years and is the only provider of milk and other resources to babies and mothers in the region. At this point there is no financial commitment from COL. We will likely make a small donation but they just need a club to be a partner so they can go after matching grant opportunities through the District and RI. We have agreed to be a partner and will be submitting a request through District 5950. At this point, we will help with the paperwork and to request District funds on the projects behalf. This also will be 2013-14.
