International Emergency Assistance Guide
For Distribution to CH2M HILL Expatriates and International Business Travelers
Overview
This document provides guidance for CH2M HILL Expatriates and International Business Travelers in the event of a medical emergency or other life-threatening incident outside the country of employment or origin. This guide provides the business traveler with assistance or relevant information from company designated vendors such as International SOS (ISOS), travel agencies and security companies. This Guide was developed as a consequence of the changing personal security environment, particularly in remote locations around the world where a greater possibility exists for potential danger.
If and when an event requires immediate action, including hospitalization and/or emergency evacuation, good judgment should always prevail. If an instant decision is required and communication with the designated corporate facilitator(s) is not possible, employees and dependents are urged to use good judgment and take all steps necessary to protect their health and personal safety.

- Employees and dependents placed on international assignment by CH2M HILL, regardless of country of origin
- International business travelers, from all CH2M HILL locations, conducting business outside of their country of employment

Employee's Responsibility
It is the employee's responsibility to:
- Book ALL international travel (all modes of transportation and all accommodations) through your local company approved travel agent. This is essential to keep track of international travelers in times of crisis, and allows for the Travel Department to provide international travelers with up-to-date information regarding safety and security risks associated with their intended destination.
- Advise the in country CH2M HILL office of your travel arrangements, including local hotel details and itinerary changes. Make changes through the approved agency.
- If the country you are visiting is categorized as a high or extreme risk country, complete the high/extreme risk travel form and notify the cognizant Regional Security Manager (RSM).
- To determine a country’s rating please go to the Enterprise Security site and look for Country/Area Risk/Threat Ratings under Quick Links
- Should CH2M HILL not have an office in the country you are traveling to, advise your home HR contact of your travel arrangements, including your contact details.
Steps to Follow In an Emergency or Crisis Situation
Emergency medical incidents and potentially life threatening accidents:
Seek qualified medical care at once*
Contact ISOS at the number provided below and provide the following information:
- Your name and contact details
- Contact name and telephone number of a third party in the event that you cannot be reached
- CH2M HILL ID number 11BCPS000301
- A full description of the medical emergency
- Address and contact details of the medical facility where you are being treated
- The attending physicians’ name(s)
ISOS will communicate with your local medical providers to determine whether the quality of care is appropriate. If they deem medical services are deficient, ISOS will make arrangements for transfer to one of their local in-country clinics. Medical evacuation to the nearest country with acceptable medical care will be organized by ISOS if appropriate in-country medical services are not available during the critical care period of the medical incident.
* When practical, and as applicable, always attempt to notify your Project or Security Manager immediately following alerting ISOS.
