Travel Brochure Directions

International Destination Project: Due ______

Objective: Students will research an international destination, and create a brochure (complete with an itinerary) for a 7 day 6 night trip. Students will be required to use the internet or other research materials to aid in this project.

Research: Students must choose a unique destination. The following is a list of things you learn about your destination:

·  Name of Destination

·  Point of entry information/ airport (must fly to destination)

·  Information on destination

o  Where is it?

o  What does the destination look like?

o  When is the best time to go?

o  What are the local customs like? (Christmas, traditional dress, food, language, etc…)

·  Recommend 4 Points of Interest

o  Explain each one in detail (include pictures in brochure)

·  Include information on at least two hotels (located close to points of interest)

o  Research hotels where travelers can easily reach points of interest (include prices and amenities)

·  An itinerary for visiting the country for 7 days and 6 nights

·  Include a map of the destination

Brochure:

·  Student will create a professional color brochure

·  Brochure must be 2-sided and a 3-fold piece

·  Student should present written information in a persuasive manner, using positive selling techniques and professional layout skills.

·  Graphics (including maps) must be utilized.

Instructions: You will need to plan how you will lay your brochure out on paper before you begin creating it in Word. Use the brochure template to help you determine what you will include on each panel. You will turn in your template with your final brochure.

1.  Once you have created a preliminary brochure sketch on the template, open two new Word documents.

2.  Setup the page for both documents as follows:

–  Under the Page Layout tab, Page Setup section

·  Set all margins to 0.5 – do not adjust gutter

·  Change orientation to landscape

·  Set number of columns to three

3.  Save one document as Brochure Cover and the other document as Brochure Inside to your M: drive

4.  Begin creating your brochure

–  Use appropriate font size and type

–  Make your brochure colorful and pleasing to the eye

–  Include information you think a potential tourist might find useful and interesting

–  Use pictures, clipart, graphics, etc. to draw the reader into your brochure

5.  To move to the next column within your brochure, do not press ENTER – use column breaks. If you do not insert column breaks, you have the potential for text to move around incorrectly within your columns

–  The Page Setup section, select Breaks, then select Column Break

Remember… you want this to be interesting, so that it will entice potential tourists to visit your country.

Make sure to look at the layout on your brochure template. Each panel needs to be keyed in a specific order, so that it makes sense when the brochure is complete. Make sure that at least one panel is devoted to your itinerary.

When inserting pictures, clipart, word art, or graphics, format the layout to “tight”, so that you may move it to the appropriate location within your brochure.
