INTERNATIONAL AWARD PACKING LIST
The following packing list is provided for your information. It is intended as a guide. You will be part of a program that has a camping element. Please be prepared for all types of weather and for regional weather information of program site, please check at
PACKING YOUR BAG YOURSELF IS PART OF THE PROGRAM EXPERIENCE. You should not expect any commercial laundries on the program and remember what you bring you will need to carry.
-A pair of comfortable and sturdy closed-toe shoes is a MUST-HAVE item for program activities. Jelly shoes, “Crocs” and Clogs are not permitted. Sandals or Flip Flops(Slippers) may ONLY be worn in the shower. If you purchase new shoes please break them in before the program. This can be done by wearing them 5 times around the house two weeks before the program. DO NOT wear your shoes for the first time on program!!
-Please pack all of your gear into a backpack so that you have your hands free when you are walking. Single strap packs and spaghetti strap backpacks are NOT SUITABLE for this program.
-Audio players, video players, mobile phones, electronic games, excessive cash, and expensive items please leave at home. Teachers and Indier staff will be able to communicate with emergency services, school and parents.
Clothing –Shorts or pants for each day, (no short shorts please). Preferred quick-dry material.
Shirts for each day-plus 1 extra(no spaghetti straps)
Quick-dry long pants for hiking
Underwear for each day-plus 1 extra
Socks for each day-plus 1 extra
Rain coat
Warm jumper
A pair of sturdy closed toe shoes/boots you can hike in
Camp shoes (if not closed toe then can only be allowed in base camp)
Hat
Equipment –
Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
Appropriate sleeping bag – rated to 15C
Personal cookware. Small bowl, spork (fork/spoon) or chopsticks, cup. (PLEASE NOTE THESE ITEMS NEED TO BE SMALL& EASALY PACKED) / Insect repellent and sunscreen(non-breakable container)
2 * 1 liter water bottles with name
A large backpack that can fit everything (no suitcases or wheels)
Personal Items –
Personal toiletries (toothbrush, small container of toothpaste, etc. NO EXCESS MAKEUP)
Eye care needs
Extra glasses or contact lens
Hand sanitizer
It’s Nice to Have –
Journal
Camera
Sunglasses
Small Towel
Watch

*All medication in its original container with written and signed instructions should stay in the possession of an accompanying teacher at all times.
Note: It is very important to have enough but not too many items to be packed in for program. As you are going on an Outdoor Program, please only pack functional gears, especially for hiking boots, water shoes, backpacks and headlamp, etc.
Foodrecommendations:The following is a suggestion of what students should bring. Follow the suggestions of backpacking meals for the best possible results on program.
- Dry- Dry foods are lighter in weight and they avoid easy spoilage and spillage in your pack
- Easy to cook- Cooks in one-pot for the dinner meal
- Cooks quickly-The cooking time is under 30 minutes
- Appealing-The meal should have visual appeal
Breakfast- (plan on eating warm breakfasts)
Oatmeal, raisins, sunflower seeds, Brown sugar
Breakfast Bars
Dried fruit
Hot tea or hot drinks
Lunch- (on most trip lunches will not be cooked and eaten on the trail)
Flour tortillas
Peanut butter & jelly
Power bars-protein bars-energy bars-snickers

GORP- this is a mixture of nuts, raisins, dried fruits, seeds, M&M’s or the like eaten as a high-energy snack. This is all mixed together into a Ziploc bag. *Personal favorite of Indier staff
Dinner- (these are all one-pot meals)
Instant rice
Noodles with spices
Spaghetti noodles with red sauce
Spices
Curry
Garlic powder
Soy sauce
Additions
Small can of tuna or chicken
Vegetables: these will need to be freeze dried and then rehydrated prior to eating
