Vacancy description / Following the Grenfell Tower fire disaster, the Government Communications Service has been working with colleagues from LG Communications to support the work on the ground, as well as working to reassure the public through the wider fire safety testing programme that is underway.
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) now needs to ensure longer-term resource is in place to continue this work. This is an opportunity for an ambitious and motivated communications professional to join the communications team at DCLG and work on a major cross-government communications effort.
Job profile: / The Communications Officer will play a key part in the cross-government response to the Grenfell fire disaster. Working within DCLG’s External Communications team, you will:
· support the Chief and Senior Press Officers in handling high-profile media announcements, interviews, enquiries and issues
· implement communications strategies and campaign plans
· work with others in the team, and policy colleagues, to provide a swift, accurate service to Ministers and journalists
· research and draft clear, concise lines to take across a range of channels
· work closely with colleagues in community engagement, the Victims’ Unit and stakeholder engagement to ensure an effective, integrated and consistent approach
· work closely with colleagues in policy, operations, community and stakeholder engagement to ensure an effective, integrated and consistent approach
· work as part of the team and with other proactive press desks to support wider DCLG communications
· work with the local council in continuing communications and engagement with residents and those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire
· support the wider cross-government narrative on the Grenfell response
Person specification: / This is a rich and rewarding role which provides the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders including Ministers, journalists, policy officials and communications colleagues from across the public sector. If you’re an experienced communications professional, organised and able to take initative, grasping complex issues, then we’d love to hear from you.
The role will be flexible, responding to what’s needed as the recovery work progresses. This dedicated resource will be a new, small team so you can make the role your own.
