Intern Job Description –JDRF Kids Walk Program

Job Title: JDRF Kids Walk Intern

Purpose: The JDRF Kids Walk Program Intern serves as an important part of the program assisting in coordinating the Kids Walk Program in local elementary and middle schools and implementing the program from start to finish. This includes delivering materials to the schools, performing a Kick Off assembly, attending a Kids Walk on the school grounds, as well as collecting and processing fundraising envelopes. These responsibilities will need to be fulfilled on dates and times selected by participating schools, varying between 8am and 3:00pm Monday through Friday. Interns will be trained on how to perform a Kick Off assembly as well as other JDRF finance processes.

Location: This intern works both in the office of the JDRF Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter (3333 N. Mayfair Rd, Suite 107, Wauwatosa, WI 53222) and on the road visiting various elementary and middle schools in the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter territory serving Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha counties.

Key Responsibilities:

·  Delivers materials to schools.

·  Performs an assembly or assemblies at schools with another volunteer or JDRF representative.

·  Attends a Kids Walk on school grounds.

·  Helps collect and process fundraising envelopes.

·  Enters data in regards to incentive prizes into a school spreadsheet.

·  Delivers prizes to schools.

·  Other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Erin Vella, M.S., Development Coordinator

Length of Appointment: The Intern is needed from February – Early June, 2014

Time Commitment: Predetermined number of hours with a varied schedule given in advance. Must be available during school hours at least two days a week.

Qualifications: Pleasant manner, dependable, people- oriented, comfortable with public speaking, child friendly, connection to type 1 diabetes preferred, but not required. Reliability is a must. Basic knowledge of computer and data entry. Detail orientated.

Support: Training for this position will be provided. In addition, the Development Coordinator will be available for questions and assistance.

Other Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle.

Dress Code: Business casual for in office activities. JDRF Walk T-Shirts provided for Assemblies and Walks.

Reimbursement Opportunities: Although this is an unpaid internship, credit may be earned.
