Intermediate BLS Incentives/Rewards

The Intermediate BLS classroom has a potpourri of reward systems in place, both long term and short term, to ensure students are working towards goals, as well as being rewarded for consistent good behavior daily. The following are rewards we are currently using, which has shown success with our population of students:

Daily Rewards

-Students are given $.50 each day at the end if they have a successful day. In addition, students that have successful days are allowed to have free time under their level privileges. Privileges are according to each child’s individual level (reference privilege chart for each level’s privileges).

-Students are given the option to buy snack each day, which will cost $.50. Snack time is every day at 11:35am.

-As students are caught exhibiting positive behaviors and are making good choices, they are rewarded with school money. This is a school-wide program known as “Good Cents.”

-If the class receives a compliment from another teacher, the class is issued a class compliment, which is recorded on a “Compliments Count” chart. Once students reach 100 compliments, they get a class reward (pizza party, ice cream party, etc.).

-Students that complete morning work receive money according to their level, and they are given free time to read and/or write. They are rewarded an additional $.10 if they choose to read a page to an adult.

-Students that are on appropriate levels can lead the morning opening, which gives them an additional $.25.

-If students get their point sheets signed and returned, they are given $.50.

-If students get their homework logs signed each night, they are given $.25.

Weekly Rewards

-Students are given access to the “Treasure Box” on Friday afternoons, which allows them to purchase toys and games with the money they earned each week.

-Teachers and program staff collaborate with students on Fridays to determine who the “Star of the Week” is for the next week. This student will be the star for the upcoming week. This student is given free snack for a week and is allowed to be the teacher’s assistant.

-If the class did a great job for the week as a whole, the teacher plays a student-made playlist of songs they all enjoy and allows students to dance and move around the room during free time.
