When assembling a specification package, include applicable specifications from all Divisions, especially Division 1, General requirements.
Specification developed for ML-4 projects. For ML-1, 2, and 3 applications, additional requirements and independent reviews should be added if increased confidence in procurement or execution is desired; see ESM Chapter 1 Section Z10 Specifications and Quality sections.

Application of this specification is intended for all new facilities and additions to, or enlargements of existing facilities.

PART 1- GENERAL

1.1SECTION INCLUDES

  1. Interior signs for lobby directories, room identification, directional/way finding, stairwell, roof access, areas of refuge/shelter in place, restroom, elevator and other pictograph signs.

1.3ACTION/INFORMATIONALSUBMITTALS

  1. [Shop Drawings: Submit three (3) sets showing layout, profiles, and product components, including dimensions, anchorage and accessories. Indicate layout, fit, and character of product specified.]
  1. [Samples:

1.Furnish one sample of each anchoring devise type toproperly install product to building walls/fabric surfaces or other construction.

2.Submit manufacturer/supplier’s color samples for verification purposes. Color samples can be actual materials used in signage or color charts.]

  1. [Schedule of signs:Provide sign schedule to include all signs to be furnished and installed. Include text for each sign.]

1.4CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. [Provide copy of manufacturer’s recommended maintenance methods.]

  1. [Provide six (6) suction cup tools for changing inserts in the aluminum frame.]

1.5DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Wrap or otherwise package assemblies for protection against damage and staining.
  1. Store in a clean, dry storage area, as packaged by manufacturer/supplier protected from the elements and from damage.

1.6WARRANTY

  1. Provide manufacturer’s standard warranty.

PART 2- PRODUCTS

2.1MANUFACTURER

  1. Vista System-MCFT as distributed by Century Sign Builders, 2117 Commercial NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102, or other distributor.
  1. No substitutions accepted.

2.2DESCRIPTION

  1. Tactile lettering and symbols formed using rotary engraving method and bonded to sign plaque using 3M Scotch 467HP adhesive. Lettering and symbols to have 1/32 inch return cut to 22 degree angle. Letters and symbols to be constructed with materials having embedded coloration that is the final approved color for the signs. Products with painted or otherwise applied coloration method are not acceptable.
  1. Text accompanied by Grade 2 Braille on signs requiring Braille.
  1. All letters, numbers and/or symbols are to have a 70% contrast to the plaque color of the sign.
  1. All sign plaques, lettering, and symbols to have a matte finish.
  1. Changeable Insert:
  1. Fabricate changeable message insert from commonly available transparencymedia that is compatible with laser printers.
  2. Provide electronic template file to end-user for future inserts to be created. Template files to be in current MS Word software.
  3. Opaque graphic insert to be created using a printing process on silver paper with 80% screened LANL “atom” logo.

2.3MATERIALS

  1. Aluminum meeting ASTM B209, alloy EN 5052 H12, curved sign frame with interchangeable faceplates constructed to remain flat under installed conditions and within tolerance of plus or minus 0.015” when measured diagonally.
  1. Insert base to be constructed using 0.0625” single-ply non-glare acrylic multipolymer material.
  1. Aluminum frame constructed from curved extrusions and contoured frame edge profiles with two (2) interlocking screw mounted ABS black plastic end caps.
  1. Aluminum frame construction to be capable of containing both the opaque insert and changeable identification insert behind the outer clear ADA insert.

PART 3- EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

  1. Examine surfaces scheduled to receive signage for conditions that will not allow a good quality of work/installation and that cannot be put into acceptable condition with normal preparatory work. Notify STR and do not proceed until conditions are suitable.

3.2INSTALLATION

  1. Follow manufacturer’s printed application and assembly instructions
  1. Mount signs using [double vinyl foam tape (1/16” thickness)][and][silicon adhesive] when mounting to wall. If conditions warrant, use anti-corrosive screws into substantial substrate.
  2. [Mount signs on modular office partitions using fabric pins on fabric surfaces or by method 3.2.B if on rigid smooth surfaces].
  3. Mount ADA wall signs in accordance with ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Ifthe standard cannot be met, obtain approval from STR to install in alternate location.

3.3RE-INSTALLATION

  1. Replace any product damaged during installation with new product and repair damaged substrates, if any.

3.4CLEANING

  1. Clean installed product using manufacturer recommended products.

3.5PROTECTION

  1. Protect installed product from damage until final acceptance of project work.
