Science 7
Interactive Science
Ms. Lowden
Welcome to 7th Grade Science! We will be exploring life, physical , Earth and space science in the seventh grade. Each of you will explore a “Big Idea” before each chapter, writing about what you already know and what more you would like to know in your journals. Daily we read, experiment, inquire, assess, interpret, discuss, apply and more. Periodically, we will return to our journals to see how our thoughts and ideas have changed during the learning and exploring process. We will be using many types of technology in the classroom. We will be using Google Classroom weekly and many of your resources and assignments can be found in our Google Classroom. It is a BYOD year in Science! I look forward to sharing my LOVE for science and understanding the world around us. I promise that you will learn to enjoy and “think” about science more by the end of the year.

Students will receive ELO (extended learning opportunities/homework) most nights. It typically involves taking the concept taught/explored in class that day out of class to the home, practice or after school activity. I want the students to think about what they learned in Science outside of the classroom. ELO can be found on Progress Book each day. I will also notify students and parents ahead of time for any assessment or project.
I have high expectations for all of my students. We will discuss these as a class throughout the year. My main focus will be on the “Guidelines for Success” which are: Respect, Responsibility and Safety. These will be practiced and expected daily in my classroom. If expectations are not met, I will speak with the student aside from class to discuss the unmet expectation and/or goals. In addition, in order to build strong home/school communication, I will make a phone call home for not meeting expectations and for exceeding expectations.
Grades are posted in Progress Book for Science 7 using the Science Content Statements/Standards. Assessments and projects are the highest percentage of the grade.
Students who perform poorly on assessments or projects will have an opportunity to re-test or re-create in most cases. A special form which will be shared with you will need to be completed by student, parent and myself to have this opportunity.
I look forward to having the BEST YEAR EVER in Science!!!
