Thank you for your interest in the 250-Hour Esalen® Massage Practitioner Certification Program.
Program Dates: January 17, 2016 – Feb 28, 2016
Instructors: Deborah Anne Medow and Rob Wilks
with special guest instructors.
Esalen Massage is a healing art form that uses touch as a means of integrating body, mind, and spirit. As we learn this powerful method, one of our goals is to quiet the mind and open our creative energies to the process of learning. Our study of massage also includes applied anatomy, physiology and pathology, meditation, different movement and awareness practices offered at Esalen, professional ethics, business practices, and communication skills.
This intensive program is challenging, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The course includes weekly group process sessions to facilitate communication within the group and allows participants to more deeply explore their experience while at Esalen. The process sessions are not meant as a substitute for people needing professional counseling or psychotherapy. Because our focus is on learning massage, we do not have the capacity to support those who may be in the initial stages of drug or alcohol recovery. Our time will be spent covering all material required for certification. In this regard, attendance is kept daily as required by the State of California. Please come prepared to participate fully.
A total of at least 250 hours is offered. In order to earn the Certificate of Completion, students are required to complete and document 30 massage sessions within 6 months following the program and pay a $115 processing fee. Upon completion, this course meets the core 250-hour requirements of the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) Certified Massage Therapist (CMT). To practice in California, graduates will need to obtain an additional 250 hours of training from Esalen Institute or another approved school, to total 500 hours of coursework, plus pass the MBLx exam.
For any questions you may have about the actual licensing and other massage industry related questions that are not previously mentioned, please contact Brita Ostrom at or call her directly at 831-667-3040.
Rates for Standard accommodations are $7500, sharing with one or two people of the same gender. There is a limited number of scholarships available by application, in the form of the bunk bed accommodations, with three to five other people of the same gender at $5600. Additional scholarship options may be available, with an intention for ethnic and socio-economic diversity in our student population.
Thanks for your interest, and Best Wishes!
