Course Overview: Sixth grade social studiesencompasses the study of the ancient world through the Renaissance. Students will answer key questions on the world’s formation, and its impact upon societies. Additionally, students will study the history, geography, economy, government, and culture of various civilizations throughout time.

Topics:First Quarter are: Human Beginnings, Mesopotamia, Egypt. Second Quarter are: India, China, Abrahamic Religions, Greece. Third Quarter: Rome, Middle Ages. Fourth Quarter: the Renaissance. Dates are subject to change.

Materials Needed:Binder (1/2’’ – 1.5’’), Dividers (10), Loose-Leaf notebook paper, Pen, Pencil, Dry-Erase Marker, Sock/Wash Cloth, Scissors, Glue, Flash Drive, Colored Pencils,and Agenda.

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69 = D
0- 59 = F / “I am responsible for my own actions.”
1. Follow all adult directions the first time given.
2. Respect the rights and properties of yourself and others.
3. Be prepared with assignments and supplies.

  1. All assignments are to be completed and turn in on the designated due date.If this timeframe is exceeded, only partial credit will be given, as per the student handbook.
  2. Students absent from class are responsible to obtain and complete classroom assignments, homework, projects, tests, etc.
  3. Student may re-take a test, if they score lower than a 79%. Students will be responsible to initiate the process of re-testing.
  4. Please use the handbook in the student agenda for grading and assignment policy.
  5. Assignments/Homework/General Information are located on Google Classroom

Other Assignments/Activities:
*For each unit, students will be provided with a study guide. This is not a graded assignment; however, it is to be used as a means to prepare them for their unit formal assessment.
*During the school year, students will participate in various activities relating to Social Studies. Some activities will include: graphic organizers, music, dancing, sports, Socratic seminars, food, games, traditional costumes, field trips, document-based questions, guest speakers, and various multi-cultural activities.
Tutoring:
Tutoring will be offered for students on Tuesdays, beginning at 8:15 am. Arrangements must be made ahead of time. A pass in the agenda must be obtained before Tuesday morning. During this time students may review content & skills, as well as make-up quizzes & tests.
