Course Description/Objectives: Geometry MCR (Meets UC/CSU college requirements). In this year-long course algebraic techniques are applied in the solution of problems involving geometric figures in two and three dimensions. Some development of the concept of geometric proof is taught. All California Content Standards for Geometry are addressed in this course.
The course is designed to help students develop:
1. geometric skills and concepts.
2. ability to construct formal logical arguments and proofs in a geometric setting.
3. understanding of the connection between Algebra and Geometry.
4. students’ geometric intuition.
Required Supplies: Students should bring a calculator and pencil every class AND DAILY CLASS NOTES!
Students must maintain a 3-ring notebook with class notes printed from the online site:
http://pvhs.pvpusd.net/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=643699&type=u
OR just click on the link next to the class in your AERIES page.
Grading System: Points will be earned for class projects and for daily INDIVIDUAL ASSESSMENTS. Your grade will be assigned based on the percentage of points earned. Scale: A: 90-100%; B:80-89%; C: 70-79%; D: 60-69%; F: 0-59%.
Daily Agenda:
1. Class work and notes are assigned with every class meeting. Normally the class will start with a discussion on the new concepts and sample problems (BRING THE NOTES TO CLASS). Then students work in groups of two to complete Group Worksheets (GWs). It is important to ask questions if you do not understand the work. These completed assignments will be used as notes when you are assigned Individual Worksheet (below).
2. Individual Worksheets (IWs):
Every lesson you will be given Individual Worksheets (IWs) to complete on your own. These problems will be similar to the Group Worksheet problems you have completed and will also include review problems from previous lessons. You may use your notebook and group worksheets for the Individual Worksheets.
3. Notebooks:
You are required to print the daily class notes and bring them to class (print at home, in the library or a resource room). You are also required to follow along with the lecture and fill in the notes and sample problems
IF YOU KEEP A COMPLETE NOTEBOOK WITH ALL THE CLASS NOTES AND GROUPWORKS YOU WILL HAVE SAMPLE PROBLEMS FOR EVERYTHING ON THE INDIVIDUAL WORKSHEETS! THIS IS YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS!
Online Resources:
Class notes for each lesson are at: http://pvhs.pvpusd.net/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=643699&type=u
OR click the link next to the class in your AERIES page.
Students must print these prior to class and bring them to take notes on.
All assessment pieces are graded and results are posted regularly on AERIES (~ every 1-2 weeks). Students and parents use their school username and password, provided upon enrollment, to view information on AERIES.
GEOMETRY CLASSROOM POLICIES
1. Bring your notebook with CLASS NOTES, pencil and calculator to every class.
-- Work completed in pen will not be graded.
2. Please be in your seat when class starts with “electronic devices” turned off/put away:
- Please leave your phones turned off during all presentations/discussions.
- You may listen to music only when working on your own – not during presentations/discussions.
3. The school tardy policy will be enforced – please be on time or have a note from the attendance office: - Parent notes must go to the attendance office.
4. Absences will negatively impact your grade. Work for excused absences can be made up but we cover new material every day – you will need to ask classmates for notes and work at home to get caught up.
Make-up work not turned in within three class periods following the absence will be recorded as a permanent zero. Please do not come in at the end of the semester and ask to makeup missed work.
5. Please use the bathroom prior to class. During class only one student may be out at a time and you must sign out and back in.
I look forward to meeting all the parents at our BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT September 22nd
