Gymnastics – Head Coach

ROLE PURPOSE:

To deliver technical and programming leadership to the centre’s recreational gymnastics and trampolining programme and manage / lead a team of coaches to ensure quality assurance and excellent delivery.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  1. To support and contribute to the company’s mission statement – ‘To create active places and healthy people’
  2. To line manage the gymnastics and trampoline coaches on site ensuring they are qualified and inducted. in line with the company QMS.
  3. To ensure that a commercially successful recreational gymnastics and trampolining programme is run
  4. To ensure monthly and annual participation and service delivery KPI’s are met.
  5. To ensure course registersare up to date and course payments are received.
  6. To respond to gymnastics and trampoline enquiries in a timely manner.
  7. To support the development of the recreational Gymnastics and Trampolining programme
  8. To provide a professional and high quality service to all participants (and where applicable, their parents)
  9. To instruct and motivate pupils following British Gymnastics guidelines.
  10. To plan and prepare progressive lesson plans for all classes (in writing)
  11. To ensure assistant coaches are aware of their duties and have been provided with lesson plans within an appropriate time frame
  12. To ensure quality sessions are being delivered by coaches at all times in line with PFP standards
  13. To remain fully informed of the latest developments through British Gymnastics
  14. To ensure the Health and Safety policy of the centre in addition to those from British Gymnastics are adhered to at all times

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Able to communicate effectively with gymnasts and parents
  2. Understand the learning process and training principles
  3. Motivate and assist gymnasts to develop new skills
  4. Know how to reduce the risk of injury to gymnasts

K.O.1

  1. To thoroughly check the set-up of apparatus before use for safety and report any damage to the Duty Manager or appropriate person and make sure that all coaches are checking equipment before sessions are due to start.
  2. To prepare gymnasts on the relevant badges as required and ensure that the coaching team are following the same procedures
  3. To work-out, in advance, routines, displays etc. and make sure that coaches are fully aware of what is expected of them each session
  4. To offer advice and support to pupils / coaches as necessary
  5. Ensure the sessions begin promptly and wherever possible, parents are able to spectate in comfort
  6. Allow time after each session to speak to parents, or make alternative arrangements e.g. phone them later
  7. Liaise with Sports Manager to ensure that the information is given out to pupils/parents
  8. To contact Reception should participants show up for classes that are not on coaching registers
  9. Where necessary, fill in any gymnastics coach shortages, find suitable cover for coach absence and ensure that coach assessments are completed
  10. To host coaches meetings as required
  11. To ensure that all coaches hold BG memberships and the appropriate qualifications
  12. To make sure that Ratios are adhered to at all times
  13. To support the coaches through CPD opportunities and progress coaches where possible
  14. To work with Sports Manager to make sure sessions are full occupancy and raise any issues which may be identified

K.O.2

  1. Ensure that gymnasts are appropriately dressed for the activity being under taken and all coaches are following the same guidelines
  2. Maintain high standards of personal presentation and ensure that the coaching team are all following the same procedures
  3. To assist with the cleaning away of the equipment if required and make sure that this is a team effort by all coaches.
  4. To attend any site meetings / training which is required
  5. To take full responsibility for the club’s coaching sessions in those disciplines for which he/she is qualified.
  6. To ensure all coached sessions are planned.
  7. To work with other coaches in the preparation, running and evaluation of each session.
  8. To act as a mentor in the development of other coaches.
  9. To provide cover or suitable notice for cancellation of any sessions that cannot be attended.
  10. To attend / organise competitions, displays or events with course participants
  11. To notify the Welfare Officer immediately of any incidents, referrals or disclosures or if this is not possible, follow the Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policyguidelines.
  12. To act in a responsible and appropriate manner at all times in accordance with the British Gymnastics Code of Conduct, ethics and best practice.
  13. To fulfil the duty of care towards all participants and members of the Club.

Any matter which you consider requires attention in this respect is your responsibility to report following the correct procedures, or to the Health and Safety Manager.
