Concept of Ergonomics; Human Body: Movement systems, Nervous systems, Perceptive organs, Energy needs; Practical Anthropometrics; Environment at the Work Place: Temperature, Humidity, Air Activities, Lighting, Noise, Vibration; Relation Between Ergonomics And Work Study; Components of Human-Machine Systems; Principles of Ergonomics At Work; Engineering Anthropometrics; Role of Ergonomics On Quality And Productivity; Energy Needed During work

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course a student will be able to,

  1. Define ergonomicsandexplainconceptandrelateddisciplines.
  2. Knowbasicergonomicsdefinitionsandbasicergonomic model.
  3. Knowhuman body and define humansystems: define humanandenergycocepts.
  4. Knowpostures, planesandmovements.
  5. Understand anthropometry.
  6. Know environmental factors.
  7. Know ergonomic job and work station design.
  8. Define manual material handling, know the concepts of hand tools, hazards and safety
  9. Understand the seating concept.

Evaluation: Your final grade will be based on the following:

(1) Assignments30 %

(2) Test 30% (15 % MD I 15 % MD II)

(3) Final Exam 40%

Assignments: Assignments should be done groups of 3 or 4. Late assignments will not be graded!!

Mid-Terms: The semester test will be administered during the lecture period on theday indicated in the schedule. You are responsible for the material up tothe day of the test.

Final Exam: During the FINAL EXAM you are allowed to use a calculator andtwo sided 8½" x 11" sheet of paper with anything you want written on the paper(you can use both sides of the sheet of paper).

SCHEDULE

Please note that the topic schedule is only a guide, sometimes we will spend more time on onetopic and less on another. The tests and final exam times will occur on the dates listed, however,content of these exams may be altered based on the material covered prior to exam time.The schedule is tentative.
