Instructions for using the READING CALENDAR

1. Use this calendar format each month to monitor nightly reading.
2. Each month, write the name of the new month on the space provided at the top of the calendar.
3. If the students are capable, have them fill in the numbers of days of the months on the little line at the top of each box. If they are younger, then run off one copy, fill in the numbers and copy them with the numbers pre-printed.
4. For homework students should record the title, number of pages, and number of minutes they read. This will give you a good idea of what the students are reading. Are they reading a portion of a chapter book or are they reading a picture book. They might only achieve a handful of pages with a chapter book. They might record having read 32+ pages if they are reading a picture book. Keeping track of minutes and number of pages gives good insight on what the students are doing on their own.
5. Parents should sign each night after the child has completed their reading.
