NORM!
All ELP and Intersession classes must keep to their norms throughout the intervention session. Please keep a waiting list handy to “back-fill” empty seats as students drop out of after-school and Saturday intervention programs. To avoid closing and consolidating classes when attendance drops below the norm, please over enroll classes by 4-6 students each. All Norm Classification reports are to be submitted to the Local District on the 6th hour of instruction. Do not wait until the end of a program to submit the Norm Reports.
P2 State Report
Thank you to the schools that submitted their intervention program statistical reports by March 20th. Beyond the Bell will submit the State Report to recapture funding for student attendance in ELP and Intersession classes. Remember, we do NOT record tardiness. State guidelines record a full hour of attendance if a child attends any portion of that hour. Let’s make every minute count for our students!

CATEGORICAL
MEM-4631.1 The Single Plan for Student Achievement Annual Evaluation 2008-2009
This memo is available in Spanish. It was e-mailed to the Title I Coordinators on
March 26, 2009. Just a reminder to share this with your SSC Chairperson (please note they are on the routing list) in order to ensure that it is completed in a timely manner and submitted along with your school's 2009-2010 Categorical Budgets in May 2009. The memo contains a PowerPoint that can be downloaded to share with your school's stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the evaluation.
April 15th Categorical Budget Development Meeting
In order to complete the 2009-10 Assurances and Justifications in a timely manner, categorical budget compliance review sessions will focus on providing hands-on assistance with writing justifications and SPSA Updates based on your school’s Budget at a Glance resources chart indicating the allocated direct (95%) and indirect (5%) allowable item expenditures. We will begin scheduling them individually per school-site (1-hour for Title I and 1-hour for EL) during this April 15th budget development meeting on a first come first serve basis.

Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA)
State BTSA Survey
The BTSA State Survey is now available on-line. If you have BTSA teachers and oversee the BTSA Program at your school site, please take a few moments to complete this online survey at www.btsa.ca.gov or http://acts.lausd.net/BTSA/!
Participating teachers and support providers have received email reminders as well. This survey is important for you to complete for a variety of reasons:
1) The state survey is a state required activity for the BTSA program that validates that we have been providing program support
2) Verification of survey completion by all stakeholders (Site Administrators, participants, and Support Providers) will be analyzed by the state to insure that we are meeting the program’s guidelines
3) It informs the state of your praise or concerns regarding your program experience.
In the past, participating teacher, Support Provider and Site Administrator feedback has provided us with valuable information which we have used each year to streamline and improve the BTSA program.
Please go to www.btsa.ca.gov or http://acts.lausd.net/BTSA/ to take your survey this week, and encourage your participating staff members as well. It is critical that 100% of our participating teachers, Support Providers and Site Administrators complete the survey. Local District 6 BTSA has worked very hard to provide support to you through timely response in phone calls and e-mails, support provider training and support, and by making available all current resources and materials.
Thank you for all you are doing to ensure student success during these difficult times. You are making a positive difference in the lives of our children.
Status of BTSA Teachers
Many of the new teachers in our program were issued pink slips this year. Please note, however, that should these teachers lose their current teaching position, the credential work they have done in the BTSA program to date will be honored. In order for us to verify all of their hard work in the program, it is critical that they attend a portfolio review session so that they will have an official record of their portfolio progress. The calendar of review dates has been posted on the Local District 6 page of the LAUSD BTSA website at http://acts.lausd.net/BTSA/6/index.htm, and all participants have been emailed a reminder to visit the site and register for an appointment.
Please encourage your teachers to take part in this process. In the event that they are released from their position, upon their return, they’ll be ready again to move forward in earning their clear credential.
ARTS
Remaining Arts Funds At Schools
Arts funds distributed to your schools are NOT frozen. You can see them on FRDB lines 7700, 4277 and 4292. Please spend or encumber your arts resources as quickly as possible; the LAUSD deadline will probably occur in early June 2009. Note that these funds will not carry over into the fiscal year 2009-2010 contrary to the practice in previous years. It is highly likely that no funds specifically designated for the arts will be available next year; therefore, it may be wise to use your remaining arts funds to stock pile supplies for fiscal year 2009-2010.

Summer School and ESY
It is the responsibility of all traditional calendar elementary schools to adequately prepare for summer school. Sending schools must provide accurate and timely information to the hosting schools in order to hire staff, organize curriculum and serve students successfully. This partnership between schools is the basis for the excellent programs LD 6 has produced in the past. The cooperation of all responsible school sites is greatly appreciated. Summer school is a team effort.
Elementary summer school and ESY will take place July 6 – 31, 2009. This is a 4-week, 80-hour program for eligible students in grades 2-5/6 only. Summer school employment applications are available online until April 24, 2009. Information regarding summer school sites, student eligibility, and changes in curriculum will be shared directly with the schools as they become known.
Student eligibility is clearly outlined in the summer school memo MEM-4627.0 and the April Elementary SIS Newsletter. The following sentences should now be available to print rosters of eligible ELA and ELD students. At the Main Menu type: E <enter>
:SUMMER-ELA-ROSTER <enter>
:SUMMER-ELD-ROSTER <enter>
Eligible fifth grade students should attend the Transition program at the middle school. Students matriculating to a multi-track school will be provided intersession at their track break.
