  1. Purpose

To outline the process to request special consideration at an exam board meeting of circumstances that may have adversely affected exam performance.

  1. Scope

2.1This procedure applies to a student who contends their exam performance was adversely affected due to:

  1. Bereavement
  2. Accident
  3. Illness
  4. Other personal disruption, or
  5. Disorganisation of the examination process

2.2Examination’ refers to any summatively assessed work that contributes to the determination of, or forms part of, an IT Sligo or QQI award

  1. Procedure Description

4.1A request must be made on form EXAM007/F01 and lodged with the Examination Secretary, with the fee of €30 and any supporting documentation, no later than 5pm fourworking days after the date of the last examination in the particular session. The fee can be paid by cheque/postal order made payable to the Institute of Technology, Sligo. Payment can also be made to the Examinations Office by debit/credit card, in person or by telephone.

4.2The Examination Secretary will examine the validity of the request: i.e. that it has been lodged on time and that the fee has been paid. If valid, the Examination Secretary will bring the request to the appropriate Examination Board, which will give full consideration the merits of the case put forward and then decide on an appropriate action. The Chair will sign off the decision and the outcome will be minuted.

5. Records

Completed application form accompanied by receipt for each applicant to be kept on file in the Examinations Office.

6. Audit System

The Registrar will audit the file of applications to ensure that the procedure has been correctly followed.
