Having just finished the successful International leg of his World Tour 2014, Yanni is now bringing his World Tour 2014 to the USA and Canada. His timeless compositions have been transformed by the addition of lyrics and tell the story of the loves of YANNI’s life.
Throughout the tour YANNI and his world-renowned orchestra played in 20 other countries and four continents, beginning in South America, and thrilling audiences around the globe with the best of the legendary composers’ music, which has been beloved around the world for over 30 years. YANNI is bringing his legendary live show to audiences at some of the most beautiful venues in cities across the world. Cities to be visited include Santiago (Chile), Sao Paulo, London, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Munich, Moscow, Prague, Kiev, Tel Aviv, and Johannesburg, as well as an extensive tour throughout the USA and Canada.
The USA and Canada leg of the tour begins August 7, 2014 in Brooklyn and will include performances in 25 cities throughout North America including Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, Milwaukee, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
Yanni’s orchestra is made up of some of the most talented musicians and singers on the planet: This is an incredibly well rehearsed group of professional musicians who have been performing together for decades. Often referred to as the “United Nations” of music, Yanni and his orchestra represent 11 different nationalities on stage. It is this diversity in culture and music that give this show a musical strength that is unparalleled in the world today.
YANNI’s music has crossed all cultural borders and has been performed all over the world in more than 40 different countries. He is particularly known for his spectacular concerts at famous landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, the Acropolis, the Kremlin, and China’s Forbidden City.
Inspirato, YANNI’s latest album, released April 29, 2014 features collaborations with Plácido Domingo and Ric Wake to pair YANNI’s music with the perfect voice for each song. Each song has a deeply personal story behind it. ‘Ode alla Grecia’ (which was formerly the instrumental ‘End of August’) was composed when YANNI was at home in Greece, watching all the tourists departing at the end of summer. As he stared at the ocean, he reflected on his love for his homeland, and felt how bittersweet it was to leave to return to his career in the USA. When Domingo and his son heard this track, they knew immediately what story the lyrics would have to tell.
Until recently Yanni, a self-taught composer and pianist, has avoided using words with his melodies, but now felt compelled to explore this exciting new direction: In Inspirato, he has used some of his most successful hits from a career spanning more than thirty years, including ‘Tribute’, ‘End Of August’ and ‘Adagio in C minor’.
Another fascinating tale lies behind the song ‘Ode À L’Humanité, based on YANNI’s version of the ‘Flower Duet’ from Delibes’ opera ‘Lakmé’. When the South African youngster Pretty Yende heard this on a television advertisement for British Airways, it sparked her love of the sound of the operatic voice, so much so, that it fired her with a desire to become an opera singer herself. Having overcome enormous hurdles, she is now one of the brightest new stars in the opera world, and has appeared in major roles at La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera - and all thanks to inspiration from YANNI. Each of the songs has a similar story. Pretty’s recording of this song that inspired her career path will touch your heart.
A true global artist, YANNI uses his platform as a world-renown musician to be a force of change in the world. He has been working with the World Wildlife Fund for three years to date, helping to raise awareness of giant panda conservation. Yanni was the first western artist to be given the honor of symbolically adopting one of Chengdu’s pandas, an experience which moved him deeply and inspired him to raise awareness for endangered species. YANNI has also become a spokesperson for NASA- a fitting partnership for his message of a world without borders.
