UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS

Wednesday June 16, 2004 NCGA SENIOR 2-Man Qualifier

Both players must be at 55 years old, as of 9/27/04. All players with Indexes of 18.5 and above are eligible, but must play to a maximum of 18.4. Play will be at 90% of the course handicap. Partner handicaps cannot differ by more than 8 strokes. If there is a difference of more than 8 strokes, the player with the higher handicap on the team will be reduced to meet this 8 stroke maximum differential.

Tournament Fees are as follows:

Annuals $40.00 All others: $75.00

Saturday June 19, 2004 NCGA 2-Man Qualifier

This is the 2-Man Best Ball qualifier (Net) to represent the club at the sectionals on August 5 and then on to Poppy Hills for the championship on September 13 &14. Two teams will qualify, and we will also have prizes for several spots who don't qualify.

Tournament Fees are as follows:

Annuals $29.25 Employees $30.00 OC Residents $78.75 HMB Residents $95.00 Non Residents $100.70

Tournament Instructions:

We will play 90% of handicap from the white tees. The best ball will be recorded for each hole, and the top two teams will qualify. Your Tournament Application is attached in this mailing. TOURNEY RESULTS – MAY/2004 – THE INVITATIONAL By Jeff Atkinson

The 2004 Invitational had it all; two great courses in tip top shape, two days of terrific weather and two man teams focused on the task. 104 players enjoyed two days of competition, camaraderie and excellent service from Half Moon Bay Golf Links and Caddy’s Restaurant. Special thanks to Pat Fitzgerald, Lyn Nelson, Gabe Glynn, Dan Miller, Michelle Garner, Jarmyn Munoz and the rest of the staff for all their assistance and a job well done!

Day one was team best net ball on the Ocean Course, Murlan Fowell and his guest Dave Biehl won the Phil Flight and fired the low score overall for of the day with a 63. The Flight winner prizes for Sunday received $125, $100 and $75 for first, second and third places.

Day two was played on the Old Course and started out with the top twenty teams from Sunday to play in Presidents Shootout. Tim Holmes and Jim Keenan won with a terrific approach shot on 18 and took home the $400 cash prize! The putting contest finale followed with Barry Martin sinking the front left to back right slider on the 18th green winning the $100 cash prize!

The final round was both balls net with prizes awarded on the two day total scores for three places overall and three places per flight. CONGRATULATIONS to Ozzie Valdez & Juaquin Oropeza who were the overall champions with a two-day total of 212!! Ozzie and Juaquin positioned themselves on Sunday with an efficient 65 and second place in the Phil Flight, then shot 147 on Monday to take the championship honors!! Steve and Alan Kawahara took second place overall with a total score of 214 and fired a low two ball net total 146 for the day! Chuck Krause and Berdeam Jarman won third place overall with 214 and third lowest score for the day equaling 149. Prizes for the Flight winners were $150, $125 and $100 for first, second and third places, and the three overall winners also received commemorative engraved clocks.

Contest prizes for the two days included hole in one and closest to the pin on all the par threes and long drive for men’s and senior’s on Ocean Course #5 and Old Course #12. Information for contest winners on Sunday is unavailable at this time, but Bruce Bartfeld did take dead aim on Sunday and won two closest to the pin prizes! The overall winners, Flight winners for the two days and the Monday contest winners are listed on the following page.
