Wildfire Season is Here in the ______Area

After the first frost, when grasses turn yellow and leaves drop from the trees each year, the ______area enters a winter wildfire season. Extended drought or prolonged wind events only make this season more dangerous. Wildfires can start in grassy areas whenever humidity is low and winds are high. Nearly all of these wildfires are the result of human activity and nearly all of these human-caused wildfires are preventable.

To help prevent human-caused fires this year:

·  Keep in mind that dry, dormant vegetation is easily ignited.

·  Postpone activities involving the use of fire on dry or windy days. Burn bans may be in effect in some areas. Make sure the most current local regulations are known by contacting the local fire department at ______.

·  Consider that the following objects and activities can start a wildfire, possibly destroying homes, threatening lives and damaging our natural resources.

–  Sparks from chainsaws, lawnmowers and other equipment

–  Tossed cigarettes

–  Hot vehicle exhaust systems

–  Unattended debris burning

–  Abandoned campfires

–  Fireworks use

–  Welding, cutting or grinding
