Silver Challenge-year 6
-You must complete a minimum of 8 challenges in total. Remember we prefer quality not quantity so take your time to achieve excellence in each activity.
-However, you may wish to complete more than 8 challenges. (The sky’s the limit!). Challenge yourself!
-You will need to complete at least 1 activity from each section and then you may choose 3 others from sections of your choice.
-You may create your own challenge with the prior approval from your teacher.
-Each term there will also be a term project based our Inquiry theme (Information sheets will be given out). Completing this project will also count as a completed challenge.
-You should aim to complete 2 challenges a term.
-If you complete the 8 challenges or more you will receive your Silver badge (to wear proudly on your school hat).
You will feature in a photo alongside the other successful silver recipients in next years challenge booklet.

Be a librarian, Milk Monitor, classroom monitor, Juicy monitor, Enviro or Jump Jam leader and help train others.

G1 / Give to people in need:
e.g – food/goods collection for Salvation Army, SPCA, operation Christmas child, food bank, donate money to charities. Take photos and write how you went about helping. (Money to be raised out of school)
G2 / Give to your family/friends or people in need:
Prepare three meals for your family or complete a chore for a month (eg vacuum, feed pets, take rubbish/recycling out).
Photos please.
G3 / Make a meal/bake:
Prepare a meal/baking for your family, friends or class (eg morning tea). Include a description, photos, reviews and recipes to show your meal/baking.
G4 / Helping others:
Participate in the 20 hour famine. Starship letters.
G5 / Share your talent:
Plan a session to teach your class your talent. Eg dance, craft making, sport.
G6 / Design your own Challenge:
Check with your teacher first before starting.

1 / Improve your fitness:
Bike, Scooter or walk to school for a month. Keep a record of your km’s or steps (could use a pedometer).

2 / Overnight camping in the outdoors:
Camp in your backyard. Plan your requirements. Show evidence through photos of your overnight stay.

3 / Explore the Outdoors:
Go on a walk with your family/friends or school for 2 hours.
e.g: River walk, Te Horo – Waikanae Beach, Pukerua Bay – Plimmerton, Mangaone Track, Hemi Matengi, Nikau Reserve
Present the map of your walk and discuss any highlights.

4 / Undertake and complete a minimum of ONE endurance event: Participate in a triathlon, Interschool Cross Country or Junior Athletics team, cycle race or a fun run.

Ea1 / Build your confidence in public speaking:
Present a speech on a topic of your choice to the class.
Ea2 / Join:
The choir, Kapa haka, band, Ukelele and take part in practices and performances.
Ea3 / Learn:
An instrument, join a dance group or a new craft e.g. jewellery making etc during the year.
Ea4 / Create and perform an item:
e.g. dance, drama or mixed media for the class, school or community
Ea5 / Design and make:
A flag for your class, family or Kapanui School. Include your sketches for planning and then make your flag.
Ea6 / Design a filmed advert:
On a product of your choice.
Ea7 / Challenge your photography skills:
Choose one of the following themes – Plant life, nature or construction and take digital photos over time to show the development of a sequence of events e.g. a plant growing, a building being constructed. Use a graphics programme such as paint or photo shop to arrange the photos into a collage. Include an explanation of the process.

Report a school or class event for the newsletter.
A2 / Challenge your research skills:
Choose a job/career you would like to do when you are an adult. Research the skills you need to do this job and the tasks/responsibilities that are part of this job.
A3 / Challenge your science skills:
Complete TWO kitchen experiments. Google kitchen experiments for ideas, choose them and then check with your parents for permission

Take part in the School Science Fair.
A4 / Challenge your maths skills:
Create a maths game for your class, include equipment and instructions.
A5 / Challenge your reflective skills:
Create a journal based on a family holiday. Include a diary of daily events and photos.
A6 / Design something based on a book eg: a costume or a diorama.
