  • How does your idea address the problem – brief summary
  • Can you put a monetary value on the benefits of the innovation
  • What would be required to ensure wider uptake of your idea within the industry
  • E.g. further research; demonstration trials; publicity; funding support; etc.

SECTION TWO – DETAILS OF YOUR INNOVATION
6. The Challenge.Explain the sector of the industry you are interested in and identify and describe in detail the challenge(s) or problem(s) you are trying to address. If possible, identify the costs that are incurred by the industry because of the challenge or problem. *
7. Possible Solutions. Identify and describe ranges of possible solutions to the challenge or problem, that have perhaps been tried before or elsewhere. What worked and what didn’t, and why. This section is about ‘current knowledge’. *
8. Your Innovative Solution(s). Please give details of (a) the nature of your solution and how it would work in theory and practice, (b) any evidence you have through references from elsewhere or trials or other practical experience; and (c) what the practical costs and benefits of adopting your innovation might be.
This is the main part of the Entry Form, and you are encouraged to put in as much detail as possible. You can copy and paste diagrams, drawings and photos into the boxes below, as well as typing in text.
a) What the Innovation is and how and why it would work in practice*. Describe in as much detail as possible what the innovative approach to the challenge is. What is it physically or operationally; how does it work; how much of a difference is it likely to make?
b) Evidence *. To what extent are you basing your innovation on ideas that have arisen from different sources: identify and describe them. Have you actually tried to implement some aspects of your innovation yourself – partial trials or developments: describe them
c) Financial implications *.What are the costs of implementing your innovation, and how much do you estimate it would save in the longer term, by reducing the severity of the challenge or problem?
9. Future development of your innovation *. Explain how you would be able to take forward your innovation to benefit your own business or operation – if applicable. Would there be any barriers: access to finance; regulations; etc? Is further research and development required, and if so, describe how that might be achieved. Could Fisheries Innovation Scotland help with that?
Please also explain how you would like to see your innovation implemented on a larger scale within the industry, and how uptake might be promoted and encouraged. The barriers might be the same, but would there be potential benefits from economy of scale (in manufacturing equipment) or in peer-pressure to achieve change in the current status quo?
