TUTOR TEAM LIAISON MANAGER / Centre website address:

Please give a brief description of the role:
COURSE, TUTOR & ASSESSOR CO-ORDINATOR, TRAINING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE
Please provide an outline of the experience your centre has of delivering exercise and fitness competence-based Vocational Qualifications/Technical Certificates?
Later Life Training was founded in February 2003 to administer and run courses in Exercise for the Prevention of Falls & Injuries in Frailer Older People (Postural Stability Instructor) and the "Someone Like Me" Senior Peer Activity Motivator Programme. Dawn Skelton is the Company Secretary, Susie Dinan-Young heads the Tutor Team and Bob Laventure is in overall charge of the Senior Peer Activity Motivator Programme.
Later Life Training has been financially viable since their start up in 2003, with consistent demand for courses. It is important to note that this demand is sustained on the reputation of the course alone, as this has been achieved without advertising or marketing. Considerable investment is made into the updating of core resources, the production of new resources (the CPD programme), the training of the tutor team and the quality assurance procedures.
To date, LLT have trained over 1100 specialist postural stability instructors (PSI). Physiotherapists are consistently the largest representative group, followed closely by Advanced Exercise for the Older Person Instructors. Candidates alsoinclude: Occupational Therapists; Specialist Nurses (e.g. Fracture Liaison nurses); Falls coordinators. Disciplines such as GPs, gynaecologist and osteopath, have also attended.
We have a unique tutor/assessor team and take great pride in the quality of provision, along with the strong, professional, supportive and happy relationships within the entire company. The tutor team are multi-disciplinary and they comprise of exercise practitioners, physiotherapists and geriatricians. Each of the tutors delivering the course comes from a relevant specialist background (the theory tutors have physiotherapy, movement science or exercise physiology backgrounds; the practical tutors are exercise practitioners working with clinical populations including falls and physiotherapists). Each is a qualified postural stability instructor. Each has extensive experience of delivering falls prevention programmes within a health or exercise setting and is currently engaged in the teaching, management or research of falls exercise. All the practical tutors have additional qualifications in teaching and assessing and recognised expertise and experience in tutoring or lecturing on vocational or higher education courses on health related exercise and extensive experience of delivering the course. All tutors are members of the Institute for Learning.
In addition to the directors, the tutor/assessor team consists of Dawn McLean, Sheena Gawler (Land), Vicki Goodwin, Sarah Wheatley, Sara Wicebloom, Bex Townley, Simon Hanna, Emma Cameron, Jolly Barrow, Kelsey Sprintall, Dalena Christian, Keith Gawler and Vicky Johnston. Tutors on our CPD days include Jane Ward, Carole Traole and Julie Pathensali (Whitney).
LLT has an effective course management structure with appropriate personnel for delivery of the qualification. LLT have identified staff roles and responsibilities which allows appropriation of adequate time for the administration and delivery of the qualification.
The LLT directors manage the short, mid and long-term planning delivery and evaluation of the company’s activities. The directors meet at four monthly intervals or more frequently as required. Each has designated responsibilities that are clearly communicated to the company employees and self employed staff. Matters arising are directed through the designated director responsible for that area. The directors are supported by the admin office team and a highly specialised tutor and assessor team. Two of the directors, Susie Dinan-Young and Dawn Skelton are additionally supported by Dawn McLean (the Courses, Tutor and Assessor Co-ordinator) on the Education, Training and Quality Assurance side and by Sheena Gawler (the Co-Development Lead) on new product development.
