This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop further this new East Manchester Sixth Form College. The role of College Principal is to provide vision, leadership and management for this College, which is proud to be part of the Bright Futures Educational Trust.

In this stimulating environment there are many opportunities for the Principal to bring creative ideas and strategies which will take the College to outstanding achievement and contribute to its continuing development within the local community which is essential in providing a valued education committed to excellence.

Our work with elite athletes, (Manchester City Football Club, GB Taekwondo, GB Cycling) delivering the education they wish for, alongside their rigorous training schedule means that staff and students can enjoy the extra dimension this brings to the College and we are happy to work with these athletes within a flexible teaching programme.

The Principal will be a highly successful and experienced Senior Leader, who is able to enthuse, motivate and inspire staff and students. The successful candidate will have already demonstrated outstanding leadership in the Sixth Form sector, having a proven track record of management and highly effective communication skills within their present role. Good teamwork, high standards and a capacity for hard work will have been at the core of his/her success. He/she will be a creative thinker with an ability, determination and commitment to continue to develop the College as a centre of excellence, delivering high quality outcomes for all its students.

Developing the Future

The Principal will:-

·  Through effective leadership, actively contribute to the development of the strategic vision and direction for the College based on analysis of local, national and international needs.

·  Maximise opportunities afforded by membership of the Bright Futures Educational Trust.

·  Create an organisational structure which reflects the ethos of the College, the needs of staff and students as well as the Trust’s values and vision.

·  Develop an innovative and inspiring culture, including active engagement with other Colleges and post 16 provision, local schools, all stakeholders, agencies and parents to build an effective learning community for East Manchester.

·  Ensure effective strategies for the recruitment of staff and students each year.

Leading Teaching and Learning

The Principal is responsible for ensuring that the highest standard of Teaching and Learning is provided within the College through:-

·  Ensuring high quality staff training and development successfully impacts on raising standards in Teaching and Learning.

·  Ensuring that learning is at the centre of strategic planning and resource management.

·  Embedding a personalised approach to Teaching and Learning through the use of innovative pedagogy, new and emerging technologies.

·  Leading staff on the development of student independent learning and thinking skills at all levels across the curriculum.

·  Securing and sustaining effective Teaching and Learning through structured monitoring analysis and strategic review processes with the members of SLT.

·  Ensuring that all staff and students fulfil their potential by encouraging high expectations within the College.

Leading CPD

The Principal will be responsible for ensuring that the College’s CPD programme is accessed for effective and significant improvement in the College.

The Principal will engage in:

·  Design and implementation of a strategic CPD programme that makes a significant contribution to the College’s development.

·  Regularly reviewing own practice, setting personal targets and taking responsibility for their own professional development.

·  Mentoring and supporting colleagues involved in teacher/leader development programmes.

·  Design and implementation of a strategic CPD Programme to ensure development of Associate Staff skills and expertise.

·  Ensuring that all new employees receive a high quality induction programme.

Securing Accountability

The Principal is responsible for creating and implementing a high quality approach of accountability at the College through:

·  The organisation of quality line management and leadership structures, succession planning and processes that secure improvement and impact on student outcomes.

·  Leading and managing an effective appraisal process to ensure accountability and staff development in line with the College’s strategic priorities.

·  Ensuring the Health and Safety Policy is implemented.

·  Being responsible for all matters related to Equality and Diversity and the Safeguarding of the College within the context of its policies and national legislation.

Managing the Organisation

The Principal will lead on financial planning and staff appointments with the Director of Secondary Education, to ensure effective organisation and management of the College, that is:-

·  Managing the College’s financial and human resources, effectively and efficiently, to achieve the College’s and Trust’s educational goals and priorities.

·  Recruiting, retaining, deploying and developing staff effectively and managing their workload to achieve the ethos of the College.

General Leadership Responsibilities of the Principal

·  Create and foster an environment of reflective practice and CPD, leading by example in all aspects of personal and professional development.

·  Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for self and others.

·  Update the Director of Secondary Education, the CEO of the Trust and the Local Governing Body of his/her College on the effectiveness of the provision through accurate accounts of the College’s performance.

·  Sustain highly effective, positive relationships with all staff, students, parents/carers, governors, stakeholders and the local community.

·  Maintain clear expectations and high standards of professionalism.

·  Lead by example as a teacher, leader and as a manager, achieving high standards of student attainment and progress, behaviour and motivation through effective teaching as and when applicable.

·  Challenge under-performance at all levels, and ensure timely corrective action and follow up.

·  Support the development and maintenance of College policies and practices to ensure consistent application.

·  Plan, chair and organise meetings as appropriate.

·  Work with the Local Governing Body and the Chair to secure progress in the College.

·  Work with the Director of Secondary Education, other Trust Principals, relevant staff, the CEO/Executive Team and Trust Directors for the promotion of the vision, ethos and growth of the Trust and its educational establishments.
