TROOP 72

INFORMATION FOR NEW BOY SCOUTS

Troop 72 is organized and operated by the Boy Scouts in the Troop.

  1. MEETING SCHEDULE

- Troop 72 meets the 1st, 2nd and 4th Monday of every month from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm.

- The meetings are held in the Bethany Presbyterian Annex Parlor, 1818 Queen Anne Avenue.

- A Parent Committee Meeting is held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 8:00 at the Bethany Presbyterian Parlor, 1818 Queen Anne Ave N. The business of Troop 72 is discussed at the meetings. All parents are invited to attend the meetings and participate in the future plans of the Troop.

  1. REGISTRATION

- Each new Scout must complete a Boy Scouts of America (BSA) registration form.

- The registration fee will be paid by Troop 72.

-Submit the completed form to the Scoutmaster at the next Troop Meeting.

  1. CODE OF CONDUCT

- Each new Scout must complete a Troop 72 Code of Conduct form.

-Submit the completed form to the Scoutmaster at the next Troop Meeting.

  1. SCOUT UNIFORM

- Purchase a Boy Scout uniform shirt and patches. Troop 72 does not require a Boy Scout to wear the Scout pants, shorts or socks. Troop 72 will supply a neckerchief and slide for each Boy Scout.

- To identify which patches you will need to purchase, look at one of the Boy Scout uniforms at the next meeting.

- To help you remember where the patches should be installed on your uniform, go online to click on the “Customer Service” icon in the upper right corner, click on “Documents, Forms and Instructions” in the topics listed, under Patch Placement and Uniform Inspection Sheets click on “Boy Scout / Varsity Scout Sheet”. An illustration titled “Official Placement of Insignia” will appear. A copy of the illustration has been enclosed in the information package.

Shop Hours: Monday thru Friday – 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday – 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Enter the driveway on the north side of the Scout building, between the Wells Fargo Bank and the Scout building, and proceed to the parking lot at the rear of the Scout building.

  1. BOY SCOUT HANDBOOK

- Troop 72 will give each Scout a Boy Scout Handbook.

- Mark your name, Troop and date on the inside of the front of the handbook. Also write your name on the edge of the book for easy identification.

- All completed requirements will be signed-off in your handbook so it will become the record of your rank advancements in Boy Scouts.

- Bring your handbook to every Scout meeting and take it on outings so that each requirement can be signed-off at the time it is completed.

- A handbook cover can be purchased at the Scout Shop to help protect your handbook.

  1. TROOP ORGANIZATION

- Troop 72 is organized and operated by Scouts in an elected Patrol Leader Council.

-The Patrol Leader Council includes the Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders, Troop Guides and the Scribe.

- There are other Troop positions which are annually elected including Quartermaster, Librarian, Historian, Den Chief and Bugler. There are also assigned positions such as Instructor.

- The Assistant Scoutmasters assist the Patrol Leader and Scouts in an individual Patrol.

-The Scoutmaster assists with the overall organization of the Troop.

-The Parent Committee attends to the business of the Troop including financial planning, outing planning, Roundtable Meetings and Scout Advancements.

INFORMATION FOR NEW BOY SCOUTS

  1. TROOP ROSTER

- The Troop 72 Roster contains the names, phone numbers and email addresses for the Boy Scouts in Troop 72 and the parents or guardians for each Scout.

- A current roster is maintained on the Troop 72 web site at

- All Troop information is distributed through our email distribution list which is managed by Chris Saether, the Scoutmaster.

- If any of your contact information changes, send an email to Chris at so that he can update the information.

- Please check your email regularly.

- The web site is a wealth of information including the Troop Roster, outing schedules, photos of past outings, packing lists, links to other Scout web sites and much more.

- Take some time to look at the web site and you will learn a lot about Troop 72.

  1. TROOP OUTINGS

- The Patrol Leader Council organizes a list of outings for the year.

- There is typically one outing each month, but sometimes there are multiple outings when day hikes or high adventure outings are added.

- The annual list of the outings, the current monthly outings and photos of past outings are maintained at

  1. MEDICAL FORMS

- Scouts and adults need to submit a completed BSA Medical Healthform to the Scoutmaster at the next Troop Meeting.

- BSA has a multi-part form. Parts A and C need to be filled out annually. Part B requires a physical and is needed for outings longer than 72 hours.

- All Scouts and adults attending a camp or outingare required to have current medical forms.

- When you have completed your medicalforms, send them to Xana Moore-Wulsin, the parent volunteer who maintains a record of the medical forms for each Scout and adult.

Boy Scouts

All Scouts and adults must complete anannual health and medical history form.

INFORMATION FOR NEW BOY SCOUTS

  1. ADULT VOLUNTEERS

-Troop 72 is a great Scout Troop because we have a lot of volunteer help from all the parents.

-Look at the various positions that are available in the Troop such as outing leader, committee positions, fund raising, merit badge counselors, assistant Scoutmasters and decide where you can contribute to the Troop. You will be helping the Scouts have an experience they will remember for the rest of their life and you will have a lot of fun at the same time.

-Attend the Parent Committee Meeting which is held on the third Monday of each month at the Bethany Presbyterian Parlor.

Merit Badge Counselor

- Request a Merit Badge Counselor Application from the Scoutmaster or the form can be found online at Under “Unit Tools” click on “Merit Badge Counselor Information Form”. Submit the completed form to Brian Beaumont, the Advancement Coordinator for Troop 72.

Adult Training

- BSA offers training for adults such as Safe Swimming, Planning Outings and many other topics. The training is available at Camporee and throughout the year.
