INFORMATION FOR HOST EMPLOYER

All Year 10 students of Duval High School are required to undertake a one week Work Experience Placement. This program will enable students to test their career choice and learn important skills before making lifetime decisions. It also helps them to learn responsibilities of the work place and observe and participate in a work environment.

You have been approached by one of our students about possibly assisting this program by accepting them for a one week work experience placement. If you are able to confirm this arrangement please read and retain the following information, complete the attached Student Placement Record and return that form to the student. Once all parties have provided and approved the information on the Student Placement Record, the Department’s insurance and indemnity arrangements for you and the student are in place. Please find enclosed a copy of the Certificate of Currency.

The program is supervised by the School’s Careers Advisor Mrs Lana Hardman. Mrs Hardman can be contacted during school hours on 0402 086 273 to answer any questions you may have about the program.

Supervision

  1. Host Employers should ensure that appropriately trained and experienced members of their staff provide supervision and support to the student during the placement.
  2. The Supervisor should contact the Work Experience Co-ordinator if the student is late or fails to attend for work.

Hours of Work

  1. Under normal circumstances students undertaking work experience placement would be expected to be working hours that paralleled those of a normal School day/week. While start and finish times might vary, the total time engaged in work activities should be approximate to the 7 hours of a school day including appropriate breaks totalling up to 1 hour for the day.

Circumstances

  1. If the circumstances of a Host Employer organisation should change prior to the student commencing the placement or during the placement, and they are no longer able to make the above acknowledgements, they should contact the Work Experience Co-ordinator to discuss the situation as soon as possible and, in the case of any change occurring prior to the student commencing the placement, before the student commences.
