INFORMATION FOR DROP-IN SERVICE VOLUNTEERS
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Brighton Women's Centre.
Brighton Women's Centre has been open for over 35 years. We aim to offer a high profile, dynamic space where women can access a drop-in and support, free PC and internet access, low cost counselling, low cost complimentary therapies, support groups and a whole host of other activities.
In order to do this, we welcome new volunteers to join our team and contribute to the daily running of Drop-in Services. We provide full training and the opportunity for onward personal development through access to other community programmes.
Prior to completing your application form, please do visit the Centre and take the opportunity to talk to one of our current volunteers. Every organisation is different and may require different approaches to volunteering, which suits its needs and culture. Successful volunteer involvement in Brighton Women's Centre depends on the sharing of information; supporting each other and working together.
A key part of our service is giving women advice and guidance on adult learning and work opportunities. To volunteer, you must be willing to be trained in providing this service.
Complete the enclosed application forms and return them to us. You will be asked to attend an interview and if successful will be offered a place on one of our training programmes.
The women’s centre encourages respect for others, but rote workers are asked not to countenance drink and drugs, discrimination, abusive language or threatening behaviour in the centre. Rote workers are empowered to ask any women to leave who does not conform to these guidelines.
After the training programme a new rote worker will sit in on at least 3 sessions to get a better feel of what goes on at the centre, and can then begin to work the rote.
There is training sessions scheduled on a regular basis. Rote workers must commit to at least one rote session per week. We are looking for potential volunteers who will be able to commit to at least one session a week for a minimum of 6 months.
The centre is a diverse place and always welcomes new ideas and different contributions. As well as the running of the centre, women can get involved in publicity, fundraising, campaigning or finance.
Many thanks
