Information for Candidates

Belfairs High School is an 11-18 co-educational secondary school. There are currently 1359 students on roll, including 261 students in the sixth form. The school has eight form of entry with students placed in all ability tutor groups. We have Media Arts Specialist Status.

The School is set in attractive and spacious grounds within a residential area adjacent to woodland and golf course. We are a Pathfinder school for the Local Authority for Building Schools for the Future Programme. We look forward to a brand new school in Spring/Summer 2011. Building was started in 2009.

The staff are a hardworking and supportive team with a reputation for their commitment to the learning of their students.

The School is fully committed to the Workforce Reform Programme and to developing all its staff.

Teaching and Learning is organised through curriculum areas. The timetable is based on a fortnightly timetable of 50 one hour lessons. A common curriculum is followed in KS3 consisting of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, French/Spanish, RE, Technology, ICT, PE, Art, Music, Drama, Dance and PSHE.

Students in KS4 follow GCSE courses in English, Mathematics and Science and select from a range of vocational and GCSE subjects.

In the sixth form a broad range of courses, both traditional and vocational, are provided for students.

Extra Curricular activities are very important. Drama, Music, Dance, Sport, clubs and societies take place at lunchtime, after school, at weekends and during the holidays along with fieldtrips, D of E and foreign exchanges. Music, Drama and Dance Departments regularly collaborate in producing high quality performances and productions that involve large numbers of students.

We have a strong Targeted Services Department, ( Learning Support, EAL, and Counselling) that supports students with learning difficulties as well as more able students.

We are fully committed to the professional development of all our staff. All new staff members follow a comprehensive induction programme and all participate in the annual Performance Management Scheme. We are considered to be a forward thinking institution with regard for our Professional Learning Programme
